Shadow to Holy/Disc @ 64Follow

Well I made the switch from Shadow to a Holy/Disc combo for healing.

I just started to do instances with groups in order to get use to healing for end gaming. I am hoping that this will let me heal the pug,s that I am joining, since it seems like people are alway in a hurry to finish them. They pull groups after group and wonder why they are dieing and I am oom. I just wish they would realize that I need to drink to get mana up.

As for soloing, I find that I can still take 1-2 mobs of my level at a time with no problem.

The big difference is that I have to drink after only a couple of mobs, but I can deal with this.

I read a post saying that a Holy priest was taking on several mobs at once with no problems, I am wondering what the spell rotation would be for this?

Would it be better to just solo mobs instead of trying to take on groups while soloing?

My Shadow spec was letting me take on 3-4 mobs the same level at once without a problem while never having to drink.

Concidering that I am being asked to heal instances while in another one I think that I will been healing instances to level a lot more now.

I am just looking for a little advice because I have never been speced other than shadow before.

Thanks for the advice.

Simple solution to this, say oom or mana, don't follow them when they run off. If they choose to ignore this they die, once or twice and they'll learn. If they don't learn, or if they blame you then leave the group. It's just not worth your time.

I also recommend finding a couple of good tanks and adding them to your friends list, if you meet a specced tank chances are they are going to be running a lot of instances to level just like you will be so you should be able to do a lot of runs together and minimize the pain of pugs.

I don't know how far down disc you are, if it's far enough to get reflective shields then I found AoE with holy nova quite effective for larger groups, I also often quest with a mage mate and that just makes AoE the only way to go.

I have not found a way around the mana efficiency yet, but can generally do 4 or so aoe pulls in a row by making strategic use of Hymn of Hope and Shadowfiend, also put 3 points in Shadow for Spirit Tap.

Thank you for the good advice.

I have one question, if I stay back and do not follow them will the mobs come after me?

I played ffxi for 4 1/2 years and the mob would come after the whole group even if you caused no aggro. Is WOW like this also?

That is a little variable, but generally if you stay right back and don't get near the mobs or party members with aggro and most importantly don't cast anything you will be fine.

Whether or not it is "good" advice is up to you to decide but I've found it works for me. 80% of tanks that have run off and died this way have apologized to me and not done it again. One of these is now pretty much my standard running buddy.

The other 20%...

Keep Spirit Tap in your leveling build, even while leveling as Holy or Disc. It's only 3 points now and well worth it.

Other than that, for Holy, keep Renew up on yourself all the time, and learn to love your Shield - basic, but neither of those were likely to be big priorities while Shadow, so it may take some getting used to. Don't let your Inner Fire wear off either. When you have multiple mobs, DOT 'em all up, then Holy Nova them down, throwing out a Smite (or Flash Heal on yourself if needed) every time Surge of Light procs. Psychic Scream-kiting is also effective in certain situations, such as, when you don't suck at it as badly as I do. ;)

As Holy, I kill stuff much more slowly than as Shadow or Disc. But I'm pretty much impossible to kill in a solo questing situation.

Keep an eye on your portrait. As long as you do not get 'In combat' the mobs generally won't come for you. Staying 20 or more yards away from where the rest of the party is fighting usually does the trick.

As for fighting multiple mobs; unless you're actually AOE grinding you generally only want 1 mob on you at a time. More mobs means more hits taken means more heals required, more time spend casting (which equals more time spend inside the 5SR) which all adds up to more downtime. The only way to effectively take down 4+ mobs at a time is to aggro a bunch, DOT them all, and spam Holy Nova. With a decent mana pool they should be all dead as you run OOM.
