I have a shaman who is mining/skinning for cash. I will take him resto at 80 and he will probably become my main raid toon since my guild is so desperate for healers. I figure I should get him at least one crafting profession. So whats best for a resto -- engineering, LW, BS (ha) or JC? I was leaning towards engineering for headpiece in TBC but don't know if it's kept pace in xpac.

Professions are really quite personal and depends on what you like the most and all.
On my resto shaman which hit 80 a couple weeks back, i have Engineering, and the goggles from BC got replaced by http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=56487 (Electroflux Sight Enhancers), which aren't too shabby, plus they're not really hard to make - nothing an hour in the basin can't do.
Also, with you having Mining that already makes it easier to get Engineer/JC. I think it's a tad pointless to get BS, but that's just me (who thinks it can be of better use to other classes/specs). LW is an option, but like BS isn't quite the thing for resto shaman imo.

Hmm, no mp5 on those, a little disappointing. Engineering is fun, I have it on all my lowbies but maybe JC will do me better.
Jewelcrafting is a great option, the BoP gems are one of the nicest BoP crafting options available at 80 imo.

I've been herb/alchemy since level 33 and never looked back. There are some great elixirs/flasks you can make for healing. Of course you can just buy them, so it isn't necessary to have alchemy. So like the above poster said, it's a personal preference. I'm dismayed that LW doesn't have any resto gear, but it seems like that's always been the case. You'd think there would be at least a couple pieces of gear. So that probably isn't worth it. My recommendation is alchemy, but if you want straight cash go with 2 gatherings or maybe JC (seems like they can make a ton of money with their daily now). Not sure about inscription.
