DK Of-level Instance SoloingFollow

#1 Dec 24 2008 at 7:40 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, I have a level 66 DK, and have been playing around with this spec for soloing Ramps (mostly just to see if I could). Surprisingly to me at least, it wasn't that difficult - the self healing and reasonable damage output allowed all the bosses to be downed without much issue (few deaths on Nazan, but mostly through bugs or complete lack of concentration on my part) - and I've now done it twice (at level 65 and 66). Also, just to make it all even easier still, I am using a spam-button rotation of PS-IT-DS-HS-HS-DC-DS-DS-HS-HS-DC and just tapping CDs every now and again. What I wanted to ask was really a 2-parter:

1) Does anyone have any thoughts on the spec above - can you think of better uses of points (perhaps moving 3 points from Death Rune Mastery to something like Spell Deflection or Veteran of the Third War)?
2) Where do you think the limit of this of-level soloing ends? (Specifically, I mean the ability to solo instances which provide XP from all enemies)

If you want to try it yourself, go for it, and put aside about 2 hours the first time through Ramps (takes some time to get used to the slightly extreme way you have to play!)

Thoughts?

In all honesty you could probably get more XP (and gold) from questing, but for soloing instances, i think that this is probably a better spec http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=jfxMqIcIsbMzzhZ0LZbG

Veteran of the Third War will be more use to you than bloodworms, and Blade Barrier is a great talent whenever you plan on taking a lot of damage. I would think you would have enough RP generation with Butchery, so you don't really need Scent of Blood. I'm not too sure about vendetta though, it seems good for dealing with trash but other than that I don't think it is very useful, although keep it if you want to.

Hmm... Certainly interesting... Always good to see thoughts on these things from a different angle. Certainly VotTW and Blade Barrier would be useful, but I hadn't really thought about removing Bloodworms or Scent of Blood to do this - think I'll take up this idea - thanks!

Oh, and as for the fact that I'd get more XP and gold levelling through questing and jazz, of course I would, it's just this is a slightly different challenge to what I've normally done in WoW, and tbh it's a pretty good laugh :D

(PS - as a little update, I tried one very quick half-***** run of slave pens on boxing day, got distracted by family and missed a spell interrupt i needed to do, but from that short 20 mins or so I'd guess it was possible as well)

Hey, took your advice and hit 67 (yay Rune Strike or whatever - added a /cast Rune Strike at the start of my macro and it worked, did get rid of the DCs though - RS procs too often!), Ramps and BF are now, if not trivial, then certainly relatively easy. Unfortunately however, I was running SP solo today, got to the first boss and died a few times (think he is possible if you're very careful with taking down his totems... maybe...), got a guildmate (76 Blood DK, just respecced to blood so was testing his spec) to help, killed the first boss easy, then wiped on the second boss twice - if you get hit by Water Spit followed by Grieveous Wound, the 900 or something damage every 2 seconds is just too much to self heal over (you need to get back to full health to get rid of the wound). Honestly, 2-manning with a healer is probably the best bet there :)
