Introduction:

Ballista is a form of direct PvP found in FFXI. During Ballista you are split into two teams according to which nations you're from, BUT this does not mean members from
other nations can not participate in the match if lets say it's San D'oria VS Windurst (more on this later) The purpose of this guide is to shed some light and dispel
some common misonceptions that people have on the sport. Once the basic rules are explained I will begin to write about somethings I have noticed from my years
of playing Ballista.

Some information about myself and why I thought to write about this guide:

Currently I am Hiswhitewings of Fenrir. Originally I was Lonethief of Shiva but due to ballista being none existant I decided to travel to Fenrir in hopes of being able
to play my favorite aspect of FFXI, and I was not dissapointed. I have been participating in Ballista matches since it was inmplemented (More like since I hit lv 30 after it was
implemented) and have always been a great fan. There have been many changes to tactics used especially with the load of new jobs comming onto the scene and the playerbase
simply smartening up due to experience in the game. I have always hoped that Ballista would become main stream, but it hasn't. So now I want to do something to attempt
to make it main stream.

How do I start?

Good question, and it should be the first question to ask if you want to participate. There is a quest which has to be done before you can participate in matches.
It's very simple but requires a lot of traveling as well as Rank 3 or above.
To begin you first have to speak to the Ballista NPC in your home nation. They are located in the following areas/positions.

Bastok: Invincible Shield (Metal Works G-8 right outside of Cid's shop)
San D'oria: Excenmille (North San D'oria D-9 near the gates to Ronfaure)
Windurst: Mhabi Molkot (Heavens Tower. She is the only Mithra in the room straight ahead upon entering)

Once you begin the quest you must then go to the other nations and speak to the NPC listed above for that respective nation. Once you've gotten the CS from that nations ballista
leader you then have to go to the following areas for another CS before heading out to the next nation

Bastok: Metalworks (J-8) [I BELIEVE it's the presidents office. Need confirmation on this]
San D'oria: Chateau d'Oraguille (Click on the King's Chamber to trigger a CS.) [Need confirmation if it is needed to click or if entering triggers the CS]
Windurst: Kupipi (Heavens Tower, Clerical Chamber)

If you are still having trouble finding the NPC sub rng or bst for widescan.

Once your trip to the other nations is complete return to your home nation and speak to the Ballista leader of your nation. He will then send you to speak to your nations
leader, POS located directly above here.

(I'm not 100% sure if you're suppose to speak to the other nations leader first or the Ballista leader. If someone who hasn't done the quest can check it out for me
I'd appreciate it)

Congratulations! you now have a Ballista License and can participate in conflict!

Great...now how do I play?

Ballista is run on a schedule which works as follows:

MELPHINA QUOTE

A helpful tool which will help you follow the schedule is found as part of add-on to firefox which can be located here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3444

Be careful though since some links link to somepage which has been hacked before. I personally use it only to see the ballista schedule as well as ferry schedules.

Rules of the game

In the beginning the game of Ballista may seem overwhelming since it is like a new game within a game, as I like to say. But once you get a few matches under your belt
it all becomes second nature much like how FFXI becomes second nature to most players.
