Still the best to level to 70?

Is Mut the way to go 70-80?

Combat Swords is(imo) the best spec to level with until 70-72. Whenever you get some good daggers mutilate without HfB is the best spec. Most people go into sub and get serrated blades, but also go and get duel wield spec. I'm at work so I can't post an exact talent tree, but there is one floating around somewhere on the forums.

I personally love mutilate for leveling because I rarely get hit due to stunlock capabilities. Less downtime is always great.

But, mutilate has little multiple target functionality? This could slow me down a bit as I am used to chewing downs groups of mobs my same level.

I personally haven't ran into that many multiple mob pulls. If I do I just sap the one that I think would give me the most problems. Kill the other one/two and then bandage if necessary(which normally isn't).

You asked if it was still the best way to level. My answer was yes, and others might agree. If you love BF and combat swords then by all means level that way. Just like Theo says in the stickies about builds these are just cookie cutters. It is not saying that your way doesn't work.

Mut has less multiple target functionality than combat. The thing is that you're not going to need it as mut, because you 3-shot a mob, wait for energy and repeat.

Hmm, can you breakdown this 3 shot mut thing? Is it just cheap shot, mut and evisc?

I haven't three shotted something myself, but have came close. If you get good crits on your initial mutilate that can drop the mobs health alot, and then your second mutilate should add 5 combo points. Coldblood eviscerate and they can drop. Granted that is using a cd but what good are abilities if you never use them.

Depending on your build, you can do a five point Evis after the first Mutilate, and if it's a low mitigation target you can easily Twoshot it with a bit of luck.

Alright, fair enough, you're not going to 3-shot everything, but it's pretty damn close. Cheap shot > Mut > Evis brings most mobs down to ~10% hp if it doesn't kill them. This cycle overkills low hp/armor mobs and brings high armor mobs down to ~30%. For high armor mobs you go Cheap shot > Mut > Kidney shot > Mut > Eviscerate to kill them.

Ah, i feel embarrassed, i didn't realize that Mutilate added two combat points, now i understand its potency, thanks guys!

Is Mutilate the same as backstab with positioning as well?

This was the leveling build I ended up falling in love with in Northend. I believe Theo had a similar build but went to Prep (solid to have on PvP servers). There are a few loose points in there, but basically I wanted Mutilate (duhr), Serrated Blades, Initiative, and Relentless/Opportunity as the basis and went from there.

Cheap Shot - Mutilate - Evis..... oh, it's dead.

For multiple pulls I'd use:

/cast [target=mouseover, harm] Blind

Be sure to keep your weapons upgraded and use wound/wound. Also, you'll need a lot of bag space. Those Northend mobs have a lot of stuff =)

Negative, they took out the position requirement with the new patch. This is one reason why you are seeing more and more mutilate rogues these days.

Thanks all.

Yeah I went combat, and I have to say its fun. I respecced all over the place to try new things and always ended up coming back to it. Mutilate is very good though. Single targets die faster than with combat; I just liked having a lot of oh **** buttons- because I have a lot of oh **** moments. :P

The thing i liked most about combat is walking into a group of mobs and just cleaning them out. It made "Kill X" quests easy.

Different strokes for different folks.

One note: In Northend questing I found only a few advantageous multi-mob pull opportunities (in Fjord, Tundra and Dragonblight but just my personal experience) and there really aren't that many "Why don't you go out and kill me 30 more Yellow-Bearded Fel Sparrows" type quests compared to, say, Negrand or anything. And at this point the few of those I'm getting on my DK are easy with now that most people have leveled through. Least, on my server.

Cheers.
