Hey all,

My mage is just about to hit lvl80, and I'm here to get help with my gear choices.

I'm excited about the arcane changes in 3.0.8, I'm really hoping arcane raiding will be viable (EJ currently - from what I've read - has it trailing FFB by ~4% I believe).

The build I've settled upon will most likely be 57/3/11.

To achieve the spell hit cap I'll need 10% (I get 6% from talents, 1% from racial). Now, I can reach this without taking into account chest and hand pieces, so I'm having trouble choosing between the Ebonweave/Spellweave/Moonshroud sets. It appears to be down to Spellweave and Moonshroud, as the hit on Ebonweave will be wasted. As arcane, spirit will be useful to me - I'm unsure as to haste; I think as arcane it may even be better than crit (assuming defensive stance!).

Does anyone have any advice for me? Obviously, this is dependent on arcane viability post patch.

arcane with haste is decent, but the problem with it is that it doesn't help with mana problems (it hurts your DPM), then again you won't be gaining extra mana or anything from crits (besides damage) so it really comes down to your preference. It may also cause problems with GCDs.

In reality, I wouldn't bother with any of the craftable tailoring gear, none of it is that great (not compared to TBC where they were amazing for 1.5 tiers of raiding). With only 10% needed (around 268 or whatever? hit rating required) that should be pretty simple to get through standard gear upgrades no gemming necessary. That + 3% from boomkin/Spriest = 7% required, which you should almost have already. Honestly I would plug yourself into rawr (not positive if it had been updated for arcane for 3.08 yet) and see what it tells you to stack -- mostly spelldmg I assume.

Ok, thanks!

Forgot about the raid buffs; makes it even easier....

Of course, it's all a little hypothetical - a mind exercise, if you will. It all really depends on how Arcane ends up when the patch arrives, and the TC is done on it.
