Few Questions for New Lvling DKFollow

#1 Dec 21 2008 at 11:27 AM Rating: Default
So I have a few small questions. I am only lvl 60 so I have a long way to go and I haven't seen many suggestions for leveling builds, mostly end-game. First is there a good leveling spec with AoE and tanking capabilities? I would love to be able to tank the BC instances and elite quests while leveling, but I do like to do some AoE when I get bored. Also, I am slightly confused as what kind of gear to look at in higher levels. It seems that for tanking and dps a 2h is better than DW. I see people agreeing on this but no definitive reasons. So for dpsing should I grab gear like a dps warrior? And for tanking grab gear with stam. def. rating and parry/dodge? Or stick with str/sta and AP gear? I see all kinds of DKs running amock with various types of gear. Also, do I just ignore spell power items? Sorry for all the nub questions, but I decided to get to 80 on my DK after I got 80 on my main. Thanks in advance.

Both frost and unholy have good AOE and Tanking capabilities.
I personally like this build from Mongoose's Frost FAQ: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=j0xbZGxxtGcdoGRVostcr
You should be able to tank all of the BC instances and solo most elite quests with this build.
2h is almost always better than DW.

Your parry rating comes from your strength, so you should focus on getting gear with +Str as opposed to gear with Parry/Dodge
Ignore spell power, your spell damage is derived from your AP.

My preference for AoE is unholy due to the high dmg of the diseases especially when spread with pestilence and Unholy Blight.

At level 60 Unholy blight will not be an option with 5/5/5 but you should be able to put out a lot of threat by loading up your target with your diseases and spreading them with pestilence to other targets. Throwing a DnD on top of them will boost your threat even more, though i recommend getting the DnD glyph, it is not a requirement.

On single targets like bosses, i usually just load the boss up with diseases use scourge strikes, and blood strikes dumping runic power with death coil.
Here is the build I would use for that: 5/5/41

Edit: Wall of text was bad.

unholy with 5/5/5 is a great way to go. you get the mount speed increase (wonders for levelling), great boosts to aoe damage, good mitigation, the ghoul which is great utility for solo and can OT or something in reg instances if you need it, it has a great mix of abilities in my opinion.
