I usually take 2 hits to die in heroics. 3 if I am lucky, 1 if I am not. If 2 doesn't kill me I am usually at about <500 hp.

Fade is always helpful regardless of level. It's an "Oh ****" Button and just like all emergency buttons it's a godsend when it's available, it's a death when it's not available.

I was healing H:UP last night with an undergeared tank and fade got quite a bit of use. We knew going in that the tank was undergeared, so we didn't have much expectations. But I was going full on healing (think when a boss enrages, only healing like that on every pull with 3 mobs). Because I was healing so much so often, my aggro skyrocketed and the non-focus mobs would come running right at me, yeah fade was my best friend then. We only downed 1 boss, the Statue boss event killed us, just too much healing needed in that run.

But it was good practice for me, so I didn't mind the deaths, and they were all friends in the run anyway.

Glad you're enjoying it, I never thought I would but have found that I absolutely love the playstyle of the healing priest. I would definitely advise sinking 3 points in shadow for Spirit Tap (this is almost not optional while leveling) and speccing down Disc far enough to get Meditation.

I have 3 points in spirit tap and the rest are in holy up to desperate prayer. I was intending to get holy reach and searing light, then start putting points in disc to get meditation.

ie. at level 45 my talent tree would look like:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/priest/talents.html?tal=253000013000000000000000000003505101202000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

By which time I may get tempted to try the dark (shadow) side!

I think with healing a lot depends on your playstyle as to which healer you will enjoy the most.

If I were trying to roll a healer just to get a raid place (not recommended) I'd look at what guilds on my side of the realm were mostly recruiting (in my case that would be resto shaman). But I wouldn't roll a toon just to get a raid spot, I want to enjoy raiding as well.

I've played 3 of the healing classes at various levels of end-game content (mostly during Karazhan as my main has been dps for a long time, but I have done some 25man healing with those classes).

Paladin is my least favourite healer, less options for how to heal and a lack of mobility. I've not tried the 70+ spells, but I think they'd still fall behind in terms of group healing compared to the other classes. Added to that I'm not a fan of melee leads to paladin not being an option for my 'main' character.

Druid used to be my main at 60 and I did enjoy it (though at that time I think I'd have been more use to my group as a priest), but I never really got to grips with the changes that BC brought in. Maybe I needed more practice, but at 70 I had trouble trying to keep enough hots on the tank to keep them up whilst healing aoe damage at the same time. They do have great mobility though and if I was going for a tasnk capable hybrid I'd definately choose druid over paladin (as they have the option of going moonkin as well as feral dps or tank).

Priest is my favourite healer of the ones I've played due to the variety of ways to heal, with my priest I feel comfortable dealing with tank healing and managing aoe, as for me this class has the best tools for dealing with it.

I think I'd probably like Shaman too, but I've just never got around to levelling mine.

I would say though, whichever class you decide to go for and whichever spec you level as, do heal some instances as you are levelling. This helps you understand how to watch health (and mana) and you'll be more prepared for healing at 80 than if you just level without healing and are making your first attempt at it in a le vel 80 instance where people will be less forgiving.

can't remember exactly what I wrote in the similar thread on the shammy forums, but reading this thread has been interesting. For the record, my main expertise is shammy healing. Other classes I have only healed low level stuff. With my shammy I healed up to t5 content in bc, and heroics, first part of naxx in lich king.

I think it is fair to say priests are the main healing class. They simply can do it all (mana providing). You could say they are the jack of all trades. While not very specialized, they are by no means, deficient in any one area. the ******* of heals is simply amazing. And they can group heal with the best of them. I'm more jealous of them now than I was in BC (I loved being a shammy back then- always #1 in healing). they can raid heal so much better now. And their big heals crit for so high, a shammy could only dream of. Tank healing/raid healing it doesn't really matter. They do it all.

And dare I say it, priests are the best healing class on average. Some situations druids may excel over priests, but priests are considered the best heroics healers right now (or at least tied with druids). Followed by shaman, and lastly paladins.

As has been mentioned, it is still beneficial to mix 3 classes in a raid. My preferred arrangement is myself (shammy), priest, and pally. but you can substitute druid for pally. I'm always more comfortable with a priest in the party. Sure we (shaman) can raid heal, but some aoe damage is too much for chain heal to cover alone. The priests aoe heals are always welcome.
