DK Weaponsmith Specialization questionFollow

Hello everyone,

I am currently going Miner/Blacksmith with my DK and since I have never rolled a character using either of these professions I thought I would lean on some advice. I think I am going to prefer to go weaponsmith compared to armorsmith just because I have always enjoyed having cool and unique weapons overall. May main question is which weaponsmith specialization (as in: Axesmith/Swordsmith/Hammersmith) would be better overall for my DK. After looking through this list http://www.wowwiki.com/Blacksmithing I am thinking Axesmith will probably yield myself the best two hand weapon at the high end of the profession. Are there other weapons off this list I could create that would be better? Any thoughts at all would be great.
I wish there was a Staffsmith prof or something so I could craft high end Polearms and maybe staves for my Boomkin... ]=)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

As it stands, right now ... armoursmith is better. There are a very few specialisation items, and nothing for the "sub-specialisations", such as axe/sword/mace. These are only level 78 blues, and only require weaponsmithing. There are 3 armoursmithing level 78 items though, and in my opinion, they are a much better benefit for any dps plate wearer.

All that being said ..There's absolutely nothing in the BS specialisations which will give you anything better than what you'll pick up in heroics tbh, so it really makes absolutely no difference.

So, unlike classic WoW, where you could specialise in creating weapons that no other BS could make, or like BC, where you could make weapons for yourself that nobody else could even use, let alone make ... in Wrath, the only benefit to being a BS is the sockets you can add to your bracers. All the worthwhile stuff (like the 2H epic mace) are BoE, and can be made by anyone for anyone, regardless of whether or not the final customer is a BS, specialist or neither.

In short ... weapon specialisation gives you nothing, armorsmith gives you something very little, and only at level 78.

Edit - sorry, I lied, there's a 2 handed mace for level 78 as well - still only requires weaponsmith, not even hammersmith. So there's a mace and 2 1 handed swords if you're weaponsmith, and a chestpiece and legs if you're armoursmith. All level 78 blues, all very much below par for level 80 stuff. Check them all out Here

So in otherwords most people wouldn't waste time and gold by leveling blacksmithing in a certain specialization since it's really not worth it, plus some of the mats are a pain to try and farm. Stick with just gearing up the best you can and then start running heroics/raiding for much better gear

At this point in the expansion I wouldn't even bother doing Blacksmithing until they implement updated versions of BoP patterns. You can purchase the Spiked Titansteel Helm and Boots along with the Titansteel Destroyer either directly off the AH or have someone craft them for you. You will get better armor through buying BoE level 78 Saronite gear, running regular instances, then heroic instances, then eventually raids.

I agree with the what has been said, however if you really want to try it out just because you have never raised any char with those profs, then i would say hammersmith just because Titansteel Destroyer is that nice of a mace to have (for heroics and even starting arena)

Although as said early, is usually always found on the AH.

You don't have to be a hammersmith or even a weaponsmith to make the titansteel hammer...

I leveled bs on my DK for a couple of reasons, I've never had a BS (and have all other professions maxed on my lvl 70 toons), I liked the socket deal for my gloves and bracers, you can craft purples that are boe, sure you can buy them if you want them, but you can also sell them on ah for some profit (note bs is not a money maker profession), but I also think that we'll get some nice bop armor later in the expansion and since my guild raids with 2 dk and 1 or 2 pally's, not to mention the other classes plate and tier stuff has alot of people bidding on it (/cross fingers on bop)

That being said, I didn't pick weaponsmith or armorsmith spec and leveled bs to 440... after you get to 400 you can de all the greens you make and come out ahead in gold return.
