noob needs idem adviceFollow

Hey guys -

I've been lurking this forum for a while and have learned a ton about playing this game as a hunter (and playing a mmorpg, as this is my first).
So I've got a pretty good handle of the game basics, but the AH and making some money has been giving me a bit of a headache. I have the auctioneer addon, and have been scanning the AH for a week or so. Today while solo questing, I got an item called "Grunt's Pauldron of the Bear"(green). Auctioneer has no data, and I've tried Googling and found almost nothing on the value of this item.

Item give 137 armor, +4 Stam +5 Str. I know this would be a pretty big upgrade for me from an armor standpoint, but the extra boosts to my stats don't do a ton for a hunter. Also, I'm saving for my mount at 30.

So finally, to get to my question: How much do you think I should start the bidding for this item at the AH? The sell price to vendor is 12s. Any advice would be appreciated.

Btw, I'm a lvl 25 hunter on Quel'Dorei. This is my first toon with my first mmorpg and I'm having a blast. I've been a traditional gamer for a long time and am loving the WoW experience.

Armor value means nothing to you as a hunter in PvE.

Unless you want to plate armored hunter. Although, last I checked, they weren't doing so well.

I understand most hunters in PvE take little to no damage, but what I really would like to know is what price to set for this particular item in the AH in order to get the best profit so that I can afford a mount in 5 levels. I've tried researching and found no info on this item.

I would just mark 20-30 silver than the vendor price. That or you can just type in, PC on (item). Someone should give you an opinion.

You might as well vendor it seeing as how it isn't that good, plus vendoring it would save you some time, which you could spend on doing quests. Wouldn't worry too much about buying the mount, just keep questing and grinding.

Prices vary so much it is hard to say what price but the fastest way to work it out is see what other items the same level and type sell for , my guess is if other pieces are selling for around 1g try it once at that then vendor it as you will lose gold by trying to keep selling at auction if it does not sell fast.

I find quite often with auctioneer if an item has no price it is either something rare or new or more often something that does not sell for much anyway so usually gets vendored , and i have been using auctioneer for a very long time with regular scans and still see it cannot always find prices so end up guessing them.

Nice to see new players that have checked up on the best way to have fun and i hope you carry on enjoying the game.

This is exactly what I do. I also take into consideration what the stats are. "of the Bear" is one that's geared toward melee classes. Warriors and paladins primarily. Your particular item (as described here) is well suited for them since the best they can wear at that level is mail. If I were selling it, I'd look at the range of similar mail wrist pieces on AH and price mine on the high end of that range.

I, personally, don't "start the bidding." After doing the above, I decide what it's worth and put the Buyout price at that amount. I fill in the Bid field only because it's required, and I almost always set this well above half the buyout price.

As a buyer, here's my reasoning: If I wanted it 2 days from now, I'd BUY it 2 days from now. I've got more important things to do than worry about being overbid on an item I want - and the added annoyance of having to revisit AH just to put in a new bid when that does happen simply to save a few measly silver.

You'll find that Auctioneer frequently won't have data on green items that are "of the <anything>". I wish the Appraisal tab could search by the base name (removing "of..."). There are just so MANY varieties, and many people never even put them on AH. If possible, do the following for the next 4 weeks: Run the Auctioneer (full) scan only on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. After those eight scans you'll have a decent database. If the item still comes up with "No data", that's an indication to consider vendoring it.

Thanks Skosa. The AH has done nothing but give me headaches. I'll try your buyout price strategy and let you know how it works.
