Hello,
My mage friend dinged 80 a few days ago. He got out DPS'd by our 76 lock buddy and the tank, me.
Here is his armory .
His general rotation is Frostfire bolt, arcane barrage, arcane missles.
What can he do to up his DPS? Does he have some wrong gear methods? Any bad talents he could tweak?
What should he be prioritizing in his gear with an arcane/frost spec? He likes arcane but I don't think he is super committed to frost.

First question, and I'm not trying to flame bait. Did he purcahse this toon? I ask, because the things that are wrong with this spec are mistakes that would be really hard to miss if you have lvl'd from 1-80 as a mage.

No he leveled it the whole way.
I think he liked some talents for various leveling/questing reasons that I have tried to convince him were meh at best. His DPS last night was a breaking point me thinks.

When I was toying around with arcane, my rotation was: slow, arcane blast, arcane barrage, with instaproc arcane missles mixed in.

Have him read forums. Seriously, I could probably play for years and years and never quite know how talent points work, especially how they work together with each other, without reading forums. I have been playing since feb, and still feel like a noob sometimes. Anyway, have him read the forums here and at elitistjerks.com. Here's a good one for him to start with:

I'm assuming that since he just hit 80 his main focus will be heroics. The following specs are based on heroic runs. If he is going to be raiding 10-25 man primarly the specs will be different.
Frost is probably best for heroics since there is a lot of aoe and frost aoe dmg is tremendous with only 1 point in imp blizzard. But since he likes arcane I'll start with that.

I am going to suggest he do this as he likes the arcane playstyle.
Going to tell gear for Int, SP, Crit, Hit, Spirit roughly in that order. Is that correct? I don't mage myself so thanks again for the imput.

He is going to play around with it as he is a ******* and called into work today. What would a generic rotation look like for him now. I think he can figure it out but I am curious to get other folks opinions.

Not exactly sure why/what he is looking to do with the talents that he picked. Slow -> TtW is a nice dps increase, especially come 3.08 when other slowing effects will also count... Why take frostbolt if you are deep arcane like that? The normal dpm rotation is AB -> Abar -> AB -> Abar and use AM when ABAM procs.

My friend has roughly tripled his DPS. Well at least compared to last nights run where he was sub-1000 and today. He said just did 3475 in Oculus. So maybe triple is a bit premature due to the dragons. He is guessing that he would be around 2k-ish now.
