I was told 2 days ago by my Naxx group they need me to tank. I have done some heroic runs, mainly doing dps and accumulated some gear. I'm posting hoping to get answers to these questions:

1. What are the top stats I need? The druid 101 page listed about 6 of them. I would assume it would be sta, def, or expertise??

2. Given those stats, how close am I to being able to tank a heroic? Being new to bear tanking I really have no frame of reference and I'm wondering where I sit right now.

3. Does anybody have any specific gear suggestions? I'm hoping to get the epic tank belt out of heroic UK and also have the Trollweave?? I think shoulders made by a lw.

I'm going to o/t in Naxx on Sunday too, so I'm trying to get ready very quickly. Here's my armory and thank you for the help:

You must have posted right away cuz I switched the gear right when I posted. Not sure how much of a delay there is, but the feral gear is up now. I'm at about 25k hp, and 31% dodge, and about 20,500 armor. Getting back to my original post are those the main stats I should be looking for?

Man, that seems pretty low. I don't say this all to brag but to express my dissappointment in WLK gear. At level 78 I already have 23.5k hp, 29% dodge and 22k armor, and I've only upgraded 5 pieces of my tanking set from my level 70 set that wasn't even anything special at level 70! (no tier gear and no badge gear other than Idol of Terror) Hell, I'm still rollin' in a handful of PvPurples (S1 hat and shoulders, S4 belt and gloves) because the best possible replacements I've come across are sidegrade drops/rewards and very minor craftable pieces that would cost a fair amount of money and I figure(d) I would start coming across actual upgrades one of these days.

The main stats you need to focus on are your Armor, Health & Dodge. So Armor, Stam, Agi & DodgeRating. DefenseRating is also ok. Expertise, Hit & Strength, AP & Crit are helpful for threat generation but threat isn't too much of an issue at the moment. Expertise does help you take less damage by cutting back on the bosses parry swing speed increase.

You need Sta until around 30k health. Defense is not needed if you have 3/3 SotF. Expertise is good as prevents mobs from parrying so much. Otherwise Agi and dodge are good.

So in order. Stamina until you have enough health, then Agi, dodge, expertise. Armor is of course good and a big armor difference on items can be the decider for which piece to select. Especially pre-armor changes. Just about all of your gear should have big armor. After the patch armor on non-leather slots becomes less important.

edit: Friar types faster than me

I'd work on boosting your armor alot if you want to start doing some real tanking, 20k is pretty low for heroics and raids. Your dodge is good, but your health won't easily support your mitigation (the less armor you have, the more stamina you need). Even with the armor changes in the upcoming patch, armor on your accessories will still be desirable since feral doesn't have many tanking stats to start off with. The only difference will be that armor won't be required for those slots anymore so a high stam/dodge ring will be acceptable for tanking.

I'd aim to break 25k armor before getting to far into tanking, which isn't that difficult. It's possible to get over 30k before you even star raiding.

Posters, thank you all for pointing me in the right direction. Like I said I've only been feral for 2 days and now I have a good benchmark for tanking. Seems to be 30k health and at least 25k armor if possible. Looking at my armory do you have any specific gear suggestions? I'm going to have those Trollweave LW items made and that should help. Are there any specific items with huge amounts of armor on them?

Are there any gear ranking websites that seem to be good for feral tanks? I know I've checked out the ones on Alla and wowhead but I wasn't overly impressed with them. Right now I have about 30 wotlk badges and around 17,000 honor...maybe I could put that to work on some good items too.

Thanks again for the help!

This used to be our bible, but it's not updated for WLK...yet. : (

Then there's a good list at Elitist Jerks that our guru Horsemouth is replicating here.

@Jedius: u still have 2 caster-items on.(ring @ shoes)

Stats for Naxx and heroics should be: ~30k hp, 30-35% dodge, 30k armor

Yeah, I'm trying to replace those too. I may look for something with the new badges. I did get into Naxx last night and got a couple drops...I think a neck and another piece out of the spider wing.

I read another post where someone was asking about what to buy with the nwe badges, I'm gonna try and find that.

Why don't you slap some Jormscale Footpads on in the meantime. Cheap craftable.
