Resto/EnhanceFollow

I'm not really sure if there's a question in here, maybe just a story, but if you care to read on you might find one.

I've been resto since level 67 or so, did alot of raiding at 70 as the only shaman in 25-man raids. (meaning i would get pretty much any gear i wanted) I did respec to enhance for the 70-80 leveling, but all quest rewards i took the resto one unless i already had better. So I hit 80 about 4-5 days after wotlk (had a week of vacation then) and got into heroics straight away. Met some nice ppl and pretty much had a week of non stop heroics with the same group, warrior tank, warlock, mage and the last spot differed, but never a mail user.

At the end here I had all the epics from heroics both for my resto and enhance gear, and 2 weeks after i had exalted with all 4 tabard rep factions. My resto set is above 2000 healing buffed with only earthliving.. and i got somewhat bored.

So I did the fun thing and respecced to enhance and got all my off-spec epics and blues from heroics enchanted.. and straight away ended up with 3000 AP. Tried it in heroics.. and it was a total blast. I got addicted and instead of actually getting the T7 resto chest I got Pride and the enhance totem.

Now perhaps we're coming to a question. As resto i always had recount running so i could check out numbers.. i love numbers. For 5-mans I'd look at the dps'ers damage and try to remember the good ones for later invites and such. But now I guess I see things from a different perspective. I do crap dps vs. trash.. and that drops my overall dps alot. As an example I did heroic strat yesterday with a rogue and a titans grip warrior. (and of course a tank/healer) At the end of the thing I ended up just below 1700 total dps while both the other dps'ers was close to 2800~2900. But during the bossfights I was close to 3000 dps, sometimes up to 3400 and always above the others. I guess I learned now that dps-meters isn't always the telling the straight up truth, but always rolling as resto I've never given much thought to that.

I also did "For The Alliance" raid with 39 others, the horde boss achievement. During the silvermoon fight (which is pretty much just stand in one spot and dps for a few mins) I came on top of the charts.. by far. Alot of ppl in the raid couldnt believe seeing an enhance shaman as top dps.. it was fun. Damn fun.

Anyway, I'm wondering if I will ever be able to break out my resto set again, even though my guild wants it.. any thoughts about that? I even get invited to pug's by ppl I've been with before - as dps.

I love (chain)healing, but I'm starting to wonder if I love windfury more.. is this the dark side? :P

Dark side? Hardly. Games are about fun, so if you have more fun as enhancement then that's great. If your guild actually needs you as resto you'll have to balance the desire to progress with the desire to play what you enjoy (because there's enjoyment to be had from progressing too.)

Regarding damage meters, it seems you're placing too much value on DPS. A 4000 dps player who only keeps his DPS up 50% of the time will be dead even in damage dealt with a 2000 dps player who DPSes 100% of the time. Damage dealt is a more important stat.

I'm happy to hear an enhancement shammy is doing so much damage in a raid setting.
I'm only level 74 now, and leveled to 70 as enhancement before doing some 25 mans with my guild. I have recently switched to resto (had a good resto set at 70 as well) for a few instance runs, and have stayed there for the last few levels.

Still wondering if I'm going to stay as heals, or go back to dps...
