I started a Death Knight a few days ago, now its lvl 58 and I've left the DK starter areas. The problem is, I'm lvl 58, but I only have 43 talent points. Did I miss a quest or 3 somewhere? Shouldn't I be at 49 talents?

Yes a level 58 should have 49 talent points. Check your talent point calculator, you may have gotten some in the last few quests and didn't know it. I thought that the phases didn't let you continue until you had completed all the quests so I didn't think it was possible to skip anything.

As far as I know, you have to complete all the quests in the starter area before you can leave...weird that you are missing points.

Actually, does anyone know how many points the quest that takes you to Thrall awards? I bet it's 6. I logged out just a few minutes after finishing that.
