Attention all shadow priests!

I currently have a level 62 druid main who has been mostly feral but since about level 50, has turned moonkin and to be honest I'm loving it.

But I also want to have an alt, mainly to enjoy the quests / zones / instances I missed out on the first time around.

I've levelled a mage and a priest to 21ish to see how they play out, and they both have positives and negatives.

I guess what I want from an alt is to enjoy playing him and generally wandering around but also still be potent and useful in groups. The highest progression he will see is 5 man instances (alot of them since I never really did much of that with my druid), and I'm not interested in pvp.

Can any shadow priests out there (preferably any with mage alts or vice versa!) tell me whether the whole levelling and questing experience was enjoyable as a spriest, amazing, or their least favourite alt?

And are you having fun questing at 70/80? Thanks.

My Priest still is'nt 80 yet, and I did'nt play it at 70 before WoTLK (I leveled it for WoTLK)

But similar to you my main is a Balance Druid. I have been balance from when I started more then 3 years ago, and I find shadow priests a lot of fun leveling wise.

Although Moonkin leveling is a LOT better then it used to be years ago (AOE FTW!) I found myself thinking a lot of times "I wish my druid could do this" while playing shadow priests, especially mana regerating wise.

As a shadow priest I have one or two mobs DoTed at almost all times and I still rarely stop to drink up.

So I find shadow priest a lot of fun

I never got invited to groups as a rogue - I get whispered most sessions as a priest to join a group and heal. I've healed my way thru most of the low level instances. You just have to watch out for the crappy groups, kiddy MTs that can't hold aggro, and huntards pulling aggro and making healing more difficult. I like the challenge tho... :)

You'll get to see much more instance action as a healer (even shadow spec for solo) than as DPS. DPS are ten a penny really...

I found that leveling a priest was not only fun, but faster than I expected. Spirit tap is an amazing talent that keeps downtime very minimal. Being able to heal yourself is another big factor. Usually I can take on elites my level by keeping renew up during the fight to smooth out incoming damage, bubbling and healing as needed. Sure it takes a while to get them down but I usually get out unscratched.

I played a Mage to 54 and some aspects of the playstyle were fun, like aoe frost grinding, but I found myself stopping to drink way too often, and dying alot without any of the oh $&@! Buttons like I have on my priest.

I leveled my draeni shadow priest 10 - 70, healed all the instances on the way up as shadow, then went holy for BC raiding and am now back to shadow for the level to 80. Killing stuff is not a problem although surviving the gankage can be a challenge. So far I have been able to heal the Northrend instances as shadow as well. I just have to drink more than I did as Holy.

i had a go at both the mage and the priest this morning...

you do get a rush as a mage seeing things proc and blasting large chunks of life out of a mob in a single cast. but when i was in an instance, i felt so helpless when our dps started getting attacked and the healer was busy. Couldn't step in and help out with heals etc.

with the shadow priest, walked into a troll village (zeb'nowa ghostlands) and lost count of number of mobs I knocked off one after the other with no stopping at all, sometimes even three at a time. i'd often end a fight at 90% health and 90% mana... yay! at the end of that, I solo'ed a level 20 elite as level 21, it was an epic (for level 20) fight but i survived.

Maybe I'm a bad mage, but I couldn't see myself managing to do it as a level 21 mage (it was all close quarters stuff, no opportunity to attack the elite at range).

So I'm definitely starting to favour shadow priest, especially the "no drinking" part.

Leveled my priest to 80 as shadow and it was a breeze. Done all but some of the group quest solo. Ran alittle with a guildy who is a mage but found myself waiting constantly for her to mana up. I think priest in general are great and very fun to play. I have a 71 hunter that i'm working on now and I just can't get excited about. Find myself back on the priest doing all the quest that are still out there and having more fun and making some monnies too. So the answer your question is yes, I think shadow priest are amazing.
