Highest personal dps spec?Follow

#1 Dec 08 2008 at 1:57 AM Rating: Decent
Hey wotlk has been going on for a long time by now..

Dua to work i still havent dinged 80 yet but i will soon.. Ive been looking at forums, but no where does it says whats the best spec to go for personal dps.. The locks in my guild run a demo spec. Eigther full demo to buff, with imp sb as a kicker, or they use 41/30..

Is destruction out?

And what about affliction? Im currently lvling as affliction and at 75 i can do 1500 dps to target dummies which i can sustain..

destro is CURRENTLY out of the equation simply because before getting pretty much full T7 or equivilant gear you can't get enough crit AND hit at the same time to be competitive, but by the end of T7 content destro will be competitive again. currently I'm running as afliction 56/0/15 and i'm pushing about 3.6-3.8k dps average on bosses in both 10man and 25man naxx.

Jenova, what is your raid configuration? I think that could be the main reason you outdamage me so severely, though I havn't looked over your armory. Doing that now as I am quite curious.

EDIT:

Gear seems pretty close to even. I logged out in my trash gear though, not my boss, not sure what you logged out in. Still, gear couldn't make that huge of a difference. You must run with a Boomkin and an Ele Shammy. I really wish I could.

for both 10man AND 25man, no boomkin, no ele shammy, just Spriest, deathknight (for 13% damage) and all the other usual stuff (oh no hunter either), the difference is afliction rocks, scales better with stats than demo, destro scales the best of the 3, just you need high stats from the outset to make it work, hence why it's always been more of an end game spec.

just done patchwork on 25man. pushed out almost dead on 4k dps about 9.8% of total damage by moi :) if i had a moonkin/ele shammy/BM hunter it'd have been even more, i'm sure of it.

also another option is the talent choices/glyphs/rotations i'm using. unlike most afliction locks, i'm using immolate glyph over UA glyph, which is a large dps increase (most don't seem to realise this.. yet), also i've got 2/3 molton core and 3/3 cataclysm instead of ISB (another choice most haven't gone for yet.. but really should, my immolate DOT alone does more damage than my UA, once you include the immolate direct damage to, it actually comes to the same amount as CoA of my total damage... lol)

i'll post more reasons later... typing this mid-raid.

POST EDIT

in terms of stats... 303 hit when in boss gear (so a bit over the hit cap), missing some enchants, 228 haste, raid buffed+flask like... 2400 +SP

Nice. Must be the SPriest and DK though.

My Raid setup

Tanks
Warrior
Druid

Healers
Shammy
Pally
Pally

DPS
Warlock(me)
Mage
Hunter
Warrior
Rogue

For my glyphs, I use Corr, Felguard and .... I forgot. Agony maybe?

I sit at 420ish Hit in my boss gear. 2100 Spell Damage Raid buffed, and like 30% Crit once you factor in Devastation.

agony should be standard across all specs

the Spriest simply gives replenishment (ret pallies to do, as well as some other class) and 3% hit. deathknights gives improved CoE (13% damage bonus to magic)

Christ. I'm way behind.

BUT...still Destro specced. At least by the time I have the gear I'll be so good at it everyone will want me! :oP

(If we start failing in Naxx I'll switch Aff though. Too lazy to do Demo properly)

i started off trying the destro spec, i pushed about 3k dps... but simply my gear isn't suited for it. i do still believe it'll turn out to the top contender at some point... hehe

I have no where near the numbers you do, but I am still one of the top contentders in my guild. Except in Plague Wing last night. I sucked there. I was 4th or 5th overall I think.

Last boss totally sucked too. I ran out of mana, and couldn't life tap cause I was really low on health. With the healers only able to get in 1-2 heals in that little window, they were not able to keep me going. Even using Life tap 2 time right before the window and popping HS, then waiting for the next and doing the same thing with a health pot, at about halfway through the fight I'm just out of gas.

jen, what pet do you use with that spec? Im a little surprised that you don't have dark pact or imp. fel hunter.

EDIT: also, what Glyphs? Im using siphon life and corruption right now, but i think i heard somewhere that the corruption one isnt very good?

BTW: not 80 yet

While Imp Felpup and Dark Pact seem like a good combo, Imp Life Tap returns more mana for the same GCD, and between Haunt and SiLi, Affliction can handle the Health Loss. I'd probably stick with the Imp for good damage that's relatively safe since it is at range.

The Corruption on is amazing. It "stacks" with Nightfall, and Instant SBs are always a DPS increase. The CoA one is good too, less refreshing.

i'm undecided which pet is better... imp or felhound, the imp has the issue of running out of mana but is less susseptable to aoe while the felhound benefits from increased damage due to your dots and no mana issues.

imp.felhound isn't a dps increase, it's a talent that you take along with darkpact to give yourself an 'infinite' mana battery. as lathais said, lifetap gives just as much / more mana than darkpact once your gear gets a bit better, so lifetap is the better choice if you can deal with the increased healing (which haunt and SL cope with.

in terms of glyphs: CoA, immolate, corruption. they're the biggest dps increase ones

thanks so much! I tried out your spec, without imp felpup and dark pact, and it is almost the same as with imp fel pup and dp, but like you said, LT is much better, and i never have downtime like usual.
