I'm wondering if anyone else is a bit disappointed by one of the new "changes" to pets: the fact that your pet no longer goes through stages of "rebelious, unruly, etc..." to "best friend"?

For the most part I like the new changes, although I'm a bit conflicted about whether I would rather still have the "challenge" of running after various "temp pets" to learn abilities, or have this new way of auto-learning abilities for my pets. It ahs certainly made one aspect of playing Hunter a lot easier.

However, regarding the "rebelious -> best friend" progression of my pets, I sort of miss the feeling I got when my new pet finally hit that "BF" level. It felt like an achievement. It also added a certain "realism" to my pet, in the sense that he was a "player" also, who would grow to enjoy fighting alongside me. And making foods for him (while a challenge for my non-fishing Hunter who plays with a Wind Serpent) was always a certain part of the levelling pleasure.

Well, I'm happy that you don't need to grind for loyalty every time a new pet becomes the "best" at whatever. If you are some crazy rper you could always just pretend like its gaining loyalty or something, and keep the time and experience written down on a piece of paper d&d style.

Heck no. The changes to pets were overdue in my opinion. As interesting as it was to have to learn a skill it got old really quick. The new mechanics work great, and having your abilities not depend on grinding loyalty with your new pet is fantastic.

It was only a challenge in having to feed the new pet every 5 minutes. Now with Bloodthirsty (or the Growl talent for Tenacity or the corpse one for Cunning), there's no point to it. It's just too easy to keep pets at 100% happiness.

Are you complaining or are you saying this is a good thing? Anything that stops me continually buying stacks of meat is a good change. There was no challenge, it was just a stupid annoyance and a money sink.

Oh no, I'm not complaining at all! I'm just saying that the challenge in working up pet loyalty is gone, so there is no point in keeping the loyalty system. I'm happy with the change. There was never any reason for loyalty. Pets didn't do less damage if they weren't your "best friend," did they? They just did less damage if they had the yellow or green face.

If they did do less damage at lower loyalty levels, WHOA! That is news to me, lol. I've been playing a hunter for three years now, and I never knew... Not that it really mattered, since they only stayed disloyal for a few hours.

Lower loyalty levels gave less training points, IIRC.

Meh. Just another adjustment to appease the mouthbreathing smacktards that inevitably go for the Hunter class in the character creation screen. Thank the gods for the Death Knight class now reducing that number by half. The new BM Hunter (with Spirit Bond) indeed...

Let's just keep making the Hunter class even more retardedly easy to play. At least the previous mechanics dissuaded the lazy fuckers from playing the class I am/was most fond of. I think I'm sticking with my Rogue and Priest until my disgust with the new ******-version of Hunters starts to abate.

There is nothing challenging about keeping a stack of meat on hand at all times to feed to your pet. It was a horrible mechanic. With the new pet talents you can actually customize your pet somewhat, and we're seeing this in people using the gorilla for soloing and a variety of pets for raiding.

The idea of going out to train skills was really cool, but frankly I don't miss it. It was fun the first time, after that it was just stupid. Especially as it essentially reduced the number of pets you could have by 1. Playing a hunter badly was never hard, and it is no easier now. To play a hunter well had nothing to do with your ability to go and hit feed pet every 1/2 hour.

All in all, I'm satisfied. That being said:

1) I kinda liked being able to train the pet new abilities.

2) I learned quickly long ago to choose a cat for a pet. No need to carry much food around if you've got a fishing pole. :)

3) I dislike that I have no control how the pet is trained. I would rather sink more training into Growl than have the pet trained for yet another level of unused Cower.

4) I like the fact that the pet gets Talent Points - I only wish there were more points. :)
