Taming a higher level petFollow

I kind of went wild over the past 2 days a started a hunter. Surprisingly got him to almost 22. I am in the Hillsbrad Foothills and want to tame a bear. It is at 23-24 and I am still 21. I was thinking this strategy: Set a freezing trap in front of me, move back and use percussion shot to slow him, start taming and he will hit the freezing trap, then just hope for the best lol. I only have my dragonhawk as a pet so I havent had much taming experience. Can anyone give me suggestions? Thanks.

Get your hunter to 23-24. You can't tame a beast higher level than you are. Would be neat if you could, but, alas, you can't.

Percussion shot? I'm totally joining a band.

But yeah, once you are equal-level with the mob you're trying to tame, the process you described it pretty much standard for taming a pet.
