T5 Arc/frost..what now??Follow

#1 Dec 05 2008 at 8:31 PM Rating: Decent
So ok, I never manage to find anyone who knows what they're talking about, it seems like you all hang out here. I was rockin pre-wotlk, was decked out in my T5, loved life with the arc/frost build and arc blast, frostbolt rotation from hell..Now that ab is toast and my old build is worthless i've just been drilling to 80 with my old love, frost. Where should I look for the new gnarly arc/frost build? Or more importantly, IS there one?? I would love to think I can get back to being the top dps again using arc frost rotations and throw mirror image in there for extra ***** and grins, but it seems like getting down and dirty with ffb builds is the new way to go? Any advice from someone who was familiar with the old arc/frost build & rotation? Or anyone with some insight? I'm deep deep frost right now, just for survivability's sake, but when i ding 80 i'm back into raid mode, so i'd love to know where to find the new best raid spec in town. As you'll see in armory, I'm still sporting all the oldies but goodies for gear, simply because nothing better has dropped yet, but maybe I should start looking into haste? I'm gathering that unlss i want to be pvp frost, haste might be 2nd to crit and dmg, is that accurate? Someone make bliz give me back my arc frost!! I know i'm flinging a lot at this post, sorry >.< Let me know

Arcane is fairly self contained at this point, actually. So no real Arcane/Frost builds...more like Arcane + Icy Veins as I understand it. Hopefully someone with a little more arcane experience at 80 can pop in here and give you some thoughts on how to spec and use it properly. I'm sure I could come close, but I'd probably miss some tricks.

As for haste, I'm honestly not sure how well it plays with an arcane build(instant casts and Missile Barrages and whatnot). It's still likely very good.

And as for the best raid spec, way I hear it is that a frostfire spec(0/53/18) is currently the Bee's Knees on bosses. I know that I'm having fun with it. But for instances, I'm also hearing great things about deep frost. And I have to admit that there are things in heroics that blow Naxx gear out of the water. A lot of Naxx gear wastes budget on spirit.

Ya, the more ppl i talk to w mage mains say the 0/53/18 is the way to go. Shame, i sure liked having a more unique spec that caught attention but o well. And i reeeeallly don't like fire >.< But thank you, great reply. I guess i'm going to have to suck it up and do a ffb build from here on out. Frost is great, i can get in there and pimp out w my shrimp out on anyone's dmg meter but i always get that sinking feeling there's better dps out there. Maybe i just got spoiled with that ab ab fb rotation.. Bliz said they were going to try and make each tree more viable this time around, but i think frost is still more a pvp/grinding spec, not much use for raiding. Anyone savvy with arc/frost builds for raiding, please let me know, i'd love to hear any thoughts.

I'm not savvy, by any means, but there is a forum thread on EJ about raiding with frost if you'd like to check that out.

I'm basically PWNT in every fight by ffb mages, but, to be fair to myself, I haven't run heroics as much as I should, so my gear is not as good as theirs.

Also just learning how to raid, really, as I only raided post-nerf, so I am not yet familiar with squeezing every single little damage out of what I have at this point. I'm gonna give myself a little time to try to see if I can step it up, but I seriously think I'll end up switching to fire for raiding.

I do wish they'd hurry up with the dual-spec thing so I can just set up the frost build I have now, then play around w/ fire/ffb. It's gonna be a big learning curve for me.
