So I've managed to knock out several heroics as a feral druid and I know I can take them. I have somewhere around 27k health unbuffed in bear form and about 65% physical mitigation w/o factoring in that other odd 12% from talents. Now what I'm after is switching to resto as my guild has a constant 4+ tanks on and never a healer.

I'm up to 1158 spellpower in feral spec and I'm wondering if that will be enough to start out in heroics if I switch to a resto spec? I also have around 600 spirit which gives me about 450 mp/5 OOC(Unsure "while casting" as I'm still feral). If that isn't up to snuff for healing a heroic about what kind of stats do I need?

Thanks.

I've healed quite a few heroics at about that level of +heals. It isn't easy but is certainly doable. I am fine till the DPS start pulling agro and I have to heal too many people at once - then the tanks health starts to drop. Good DPS & CC and you should be able to do most heroics.

Yeah, except they are all my good friends and sometimes they pull agro because the hunter misdirects the rogue etc. :) It's all drunken fun and games. We have got pretty good at speed clicking off the misdirect buff :) I know someone who macro'd cancelling the buff in to his main attack button as a defense :)

Right you are sir! I picked up a guild run with them knowing that I've not healed on this character before (1g respec) and knocked out 2 heroics and almost a third. The burrowing boss at the end of one place in Dragonblight was a bit more than we could handle. Between people getting spiked into the air, tank/dps eating pound and the poison adds we just couldn't finish it with 3 new people at 80.

I'm now up to 1550 healing (bought some gear, enchants) and I think it will be much easier now.

I have to say the flying boss in the hallway that is like Shattered Halls is a very difficult fight.

Caveat: I'm only level 76, so I know not of what I speak, just of what I hear.

From in-game chat and posts here it seems like heroics are just 'what ya do' as soon as you hit 80, whereas back in TBC you had to "gear up" you before you were ready for heroics and Kara. We discussed and debated stats like 20k armor, 14k HP, 30% dodge, that kinda stuff. It was all pretty easily obtainable with a little work, but significantly higher than "fresh 70s" ever had.

I never woulda walked in to a TBC heroic with more than one fresh 70 rollin' in mostly quest/AH greens, and here you say you knocked out (implying relative ease) 2 heroics and all but the last boss of a third with a group composed of THREE fresh 80s including a new-to-80 healer that had never healed before. (I'm just assuming it was same group for all three because knocked out also implies bam, bam, bam one to the next.) Was/am I just a total wuss? Or are expectations/requirements not quite as stringent for WLK heroics?

Yes, Heroics are much easier now. Once we get geared from Naxx, I would have to say they will quickly become boring :(

BC had a good range of heroics. You could do an easy UB or Slavepens or if you wanted a challenge you could go to a Crypts, Shattered Halls or ShadLab run. From what I have seen, by the time we have cleared Naxx (ridiculously soon by all accounts) all the heroics will be easier than UB or Slavepens ever where. Already we are moving towards AoEing each trash pull as we go.

It also means I will have all the badge gear I need fairly soon and will be able to start running my alts through heroics instead.

I only know one group in my guild that has ever done a regular 80 instance, and that was because they were 4 manning it.

The 3 DPS were new to 80. The healer (me) has been 80 for a week or so and I've been running heroics. My tank stats are more than enough for every one that I've done so far but the guild has been short on healers (we have 1) so I respec'd. As I've been doing heroics I have picked up several epics for healing and any upgrade that was unwanted so I am actually geared rather well. I don't mind wearing cloth as a druid healer and as such I'm wearing epic chest/wrist/legs/feet and the rest are 78+ blues with one green - trinket with spell power and int from a quest.

I know it did not seem difficult at all to gear up as a tank. I managed to hit 27k+ hp in bear form fairly easily and I didn't bother to quest the best stuff or enchant it all well. Though for me money has not been an issue. I managed to pick up around 30k at the end of tBC so I'm using it to gear up now.

Another update on the healing front. I'm around 1700 healing, 330/800 mp5 and around 17k mp. As long as I have decent party members heroics don't seem difficult at all. For example heroic Violet Hold; it's similar to Black Morass. During the portals I can toss 3x Lifebloom and a rejuv on the tank, refresh LB and that's all the healing the tank will need. I don't need to rest at all during trash fights. Depending on the boss I end up with it can either be easy or hard. The water globe boss is very difficult due to the constant knockback pushing members out of range and making it so only instant cast spells are useful. The threat level seems tight on him as well, easy for the healer to pull hate.

I've done one partial Naxx run and I have to say I do not care for Heigen. We had most of our party wipe within 2 minutes of the fight due to not doing the dance well enough but we managed to 4 man him in just under 20 minutes. Yeah, 20 minutes. Off tank, druid healer (me), paladin healer and I believe a rogue. Don't release from a boss fight or you lose the loot.

I've only not done Heroic Oculus so far so here are my thoughts on a few instances:

Drak'theron - King Dred can be extremely difficult. He has a debuff that reduces armor by 75%; your tank will hate this. I've had the fight go extremely easy and I've had it near impossible. He also has adds that need to be controlled but if the tank has little to no armor at that time you'll wipe.

Utgarde Pinnacle - The boss that does the fly-bys can be very difficult if you don't have good AoE to take down the adds fast. They are elite but are not difficult if your DPS is high. Pay attention to where the ice is coming from the dragon. I took 5k damage from it, not sure if it was a tick or initial damage; I ran out fast.

Halls of Lightning - Loken is difficult. He was made more difficult as I had a tank that couldn't run away from the AoE and never ran the right way. He was made near impossible because the tank was out doing 2/3 of my DPS during the run.

Culling of Strat - This instance did not seem difficult. If you have decent mp5 you'll be better off. I still have yet to get a party that can hit the timer though. Best I've done is to get where Arthas stops for a moment to rest before the last stretch when time runs out. Most often we are slow because MP users have difficultly getting OOC to rest.

Azjol-Nerub - The first few pulls of the zone seem to be about the worst. They are on a script so they auto pull, aggro probably after the healer. Some have a backstab which hits a warrior for ~8k so don't let them get behind you. Some will encase you in a web so these need broken. Boss has tons of mini adds so AoE them down. Paladin tank makes that part pretty easy since the healer can stand in the conc.
The 2nd boss comes up after you have killed his 3 friend elites. After the fight starts other mobs will come in and join the fray. Keep them off the healer and it's easy. Poison damage throughout that is painful. Boss seemed easy.
Right before the 3rd boss is a pair of elites that can be kind of nasty. Keep the tank topped off and watch his HP close, I had him go from 95% to 10% FAST.
The last boss depends on the group. Move away from the spikes when he's underground and DPS t he elites down fast so you get the boss up fast. Keep mobs off the healer. Tank needs to watch for Slam as it will ruin your day and you'll probably wipe. Hits hard and has a 6 second stun. On the 3rd time he's underground you will get mobs that do poison. These put out high DPS and need to be killed fast.
