controlling my felguard WotLK styleFollow

Before WotLK I'd click on the target, cast a spell, then Shift+T or hit the attack button to get my felguard to attack. The challenge with this was that, especially when I was in a group, I'd sometimes forget to send my minion after the baddies and he'd sit around like a bump on a lump, doing nothing.

For solo play, with my felguard on defensive, this was great however, because I could tag a mob and draw him to me before my felguard attacked, reducing the likelihood of aggroing more than one mob at a time.

Since WotLK however, the moment I throw an offensive spell, my felguard races in to attack. Right now I'm juggling between defensive and passive buttons, so that he won't attack right away. However sometimes (as in pre-WotLK grouping with him on passive) I can't activate him fast enough.

So the question is, is it possible to turn off this new attack-on-cast mode so that he'll wait till an enemy is closer to attack?

I haven't found a way. It's really annoying. Noticed it first on my hunter so they are having the same issue.

personaly I love this change, but then i'm destro spec so roll with my imp, so no worries about it body pulling crap. if you want more control you either have to get better at being observant and quick with pet controls.. or you could use a neat little macro with whatever your opening spell(s) are.

for example:

#showtooltip
/cast [nomod]Shadowbolt
/petattack [target=target, nomod]
/cast [mod:alt]Shadowbolt
/petpassive [mod:alt]

now i'm not sure if this'll work as i've never tested the [nomod/mod] macro part with /petattack and /petpassive, but in theory your pet will attack as you attack, but if you don't want it to you hold down alt as you press it. again, this is 'in theory' blizzard is wierd with what commands work with what.

I keep mine on passive, and bind pet attack to the ` key(left of 1). Then I just control when my pet attacks manually.

I do this as well but have just added a couple of keys to my sequence. Instead of 7-6-5-4-3-2 which was Attack (to target closest mob) Corruption - CoA - Imm - Incinerate - SB. Now I target with 7 then ctrl+0 then Corr then ctrl+9 then carry on with the rest of my sequence. I will just put Corruption on before reactivating pet and pull the mob in a bit before the pet charges in to take agro. But if you wait too long the dazed effect from the charge does not happen as the mob is too close. ctrl+0 puts pet on passive and ctrl+9 puts it back on defensive, that is default so maybe if you have changed your bindings it may be different.

I've noticed the charging effect too, and, personally, i like it. Keeps the mob from getting to me and helps me manage the aggro and keep it on the felg.

As to your desire to eliminate it,
    i'd try taking intercept off
. For me though, i love it. I wouldn't want my felg to do anything but what he's doing now. One of the good additions to LK, IMO.

I do this on both my hunter and my warlock. I only like maximum control and if that means the push of one more button... well I push it.

I just set my Felguards attack to x and keep him on passive. When I'm running around on wow my finger tends to be over the x key so it's easy to enough to hit it when I'm ready for him to go in. Having to press 2 buttons to send him in took me too long. Plus it means if I aggro more than one I can control which enemy he goes after first.
