Going Destro...spec/rotation ideas?Follow

#1 Nov 29 2008 at 7:14 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I'm at 80 and am going to focus on HCs and, eventually, raiding.

Therefore...I am switching to destro. Going to start with Jeno's spec from the Hit v Dam thread....but would like to know your alternatives and your cast rotation.

I'll post mine up when I've had a play.

Cheers

sadly i haven't hit 80 yet (78.5 currently.. aiming for 80 by end of sunday), i've been testing out the 5/13/53 spec in normal instances and it's giving good results currently.. though my crit is about... 5-6% to low, though i'm hoping to up that with gear upgrades over the next few levels (currently i've only had like.. 4 upgrades, so plenty of room for more

Ok, so far it's been like this:

Trash:
Chaos Bolt > Immolate > Incinerate > Incinerate > Conflagration > Chaos Bolt > Incinerate (til dead)

Bosses:
CoA > CB > Immo > Incin > Incin > Conflag > CB > CoA (and repeat)

On trash I can get anywhere between 600 - 1700 dps, depending on crits.
On bosses it's an average of 1200 I think - still working on this, as it depends on the boss. Nexus boss, for example, requires movement, so DPS is well down.

My spell dam is 1600 (self buffed). My crit is only 12%-ish at the moment. WAY too low to be destro for real, but I'm sticking with it.

So what do you think of the rotation? Any tweaks you think I should try?

on trash groups of 2-3, put CoA on the mobs not being straight off nuked, that way you can get molton core and those CoA's will get a chance to fully tick out. also consider aoe'ing trash.. most people are taking that route now seeing as threat generally isn't an issue anymore on groups.

for trash i don't really have a 'rotation', generally the mobs won't live long enough for immolate to really be beneficial, so i've been using it on the first mob (CB > imm > inc*x > conflag), but after that i'm generally just CB+inc, no immolate. seeing as almost all pulls are multi-mob i've been using shadowflame and getting backdraft procs from that. generally i push 1.7-2k dps on trash in 5mans, up til 2.2-2.3k on bosses with the rotation of

CoA, CB, imm, inc*X, conflag.

using CB whenever up and keeping CoA up constantly. i also conflag after, but as close to the 12sec mark on imm.

my stats are: about 1550-1600 +SP self buffed, about 14-15% crit (not inc devestate) 115 hit rating (capped for up to lvl.82) and about 330 haste rating. with the exception of my weapon, 1 trinket, one ring and feet... all my gear is lvl.70 gear still. (hopefully this'll change after loads of heroics tonight

I have been known to spam SoC on groups if the tank is good enough. Good for 2k dps but less fun to play.

I fall down on Haste there at the moment I think. I have less than 200 as I never got the chance to bother with it in BC, only just reaching the hit cap and boosting Spell Power before Wrath came out.

Picking it up now though - just trying to keep Crit and Spell Power in touch with each other as well, which makes it slower. I haven't worried about Hit yet and in the Heroics I've been doing it hasn't mattered - never been resisted yet.

I'm starting to think I won't even bother with Hit unless I see resists in 10-mans, cos it's not going to happen in 5 mans with 200 Hit anyway.

you'll see resists in 10mans with only 200 hit. presuming your hit is 3% talented, and there's a Spriest or druid in the group to provide 3% hit debuff, you'll need around 290 hit to be capped, but the way they're chucking hit around, it won't be hard to get up to that point. in terms of 'minimum stats' try and get to 20% crit before devestate, the hit cap for ??bosses, after that you can pretty much forget about those stats and focus on haste and SP (haste > SP)

I have Suppression, yeah. Will generally run with a Druid, but don't they have to be in Moonkin? Mine will be Tree or Tank. What's the buff?

It's crit I'm chasing. Then I can tank single mobs in HCs. Chaos Bolt crit followed by two or three Incin crits and it's bye bye mob. :oD

Seriously though, I am just farming the Badges and will check the lists when I get to around 100. There's not much going for 40 bar a wand, that I like the look of.

Oh...good idea dotting up the other mobs. I always forget to do that.

faerie fire. any druid can do it, BUT the talent to make it affect spells is in the boomkin tree, so you'll have to be rolling with a boomkin to get the 3% hit(and 3% crit+ earth and moon proc) from them. Spriests provide misery for a 3% bonus hit.. and i don't think any other class/spec provides this.

Oh yeah. I find it unlikely I'll ever run with a Moonkin unless our resident nutter decides he fancies it again. Currently adamant that he's staying resto though!

We don't have a Shadow Priest in our guild. In fact, we have only two priests, both Holy.

So..I guess I'll get crit back up to 20% where it used to be and then try to hit that Hit cap as I go. It'll happen from Heroic drops anyway I think.
