Ok folks, here it is. It’s the warrior pre-heroic gearing list for tanks.

Do you need all of this gear to be able to tank heroics? No, you don’t, but this is a comprehensive list of the best tanking gear out there pre-heroics. Please note that any gear you may have from T6 or SWP may be better than these WotLK blues, but I am not going to assume that everyone has T6/SWP gear already, since the majority of tanks don’t.

I have chosen not to include any rep items that require exalted reputation as those items truly are a grind and you should be able to get any drop item long before you finish that rep grind because of the way drops are working in WotLK.

Anyway, enough rambling and on to the list.

Head
Helm of the Ley-Gauardian (The Oculus, Erego)socketed with Glimmering Monarch Topaz and enchanted with Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector

Neck
Amulet of Deflected Blows (Utgarde Pinnacle, Skadi)

Shoulders
Crusader’s Square Pauldrons (Stratholme Past, BOE drop) enchanted with Lesser Inscription of the Pinnacle

Back
Cloak of Peaceful Resolutions (Wyrmrest Accord, honored) enchanted with Titanweave

Chest
Reanimated Armor (Utarde Pinnacle, Gortok) enchanted with Greater Defense

Wrists
Svala’s Bloodied Shackles (Utgarde Pinnacle, Svala) enchanted with Expertise

Hands
Daunting Handguards (Blacksmithing) enchanted with Armsman

Waist
Girdle of Obscuring (The Oculus, Mage-Lord Uron)

Legs
Special Issue Legplates (Argent Crusade, honored) socketed with Solid Sky Sapphire and enchanted with Jormungar Leg Armor

Feet
Toxin-Tempered Sabatons (Knights of the Ebon Blade, honored) enchanted with Greater Vitality

Ring 1
Dragnflight Great-Ring (The Oculus, Eregos)

Ring 2
Gal’darah’s Signet (Gundrak, Gal'darah)

Trinket 1
Seal of the Pantheon (Halls of Lightning, Loken)

Trinket 2
Your best tank trinket left over from TBC or the best DPS trinket you get while leveling. Seal of the Pantheon is the ONLY pre-heroic tanking trinket available in LK, although 3-4 more become available in heroics, notably Essence of Gossamer from heroic Azjol-Nerub.

Weapon
Eternally Folded Blade (Halls of Lightning, Volkhan). To be honest I’m not sure which enchant to put on a tanking weapon right now. I’m leaning towards Striking for the hit rating, but Lifeward could be a possibility with the right proc rate and amount healed

Shield
Leeka’s Shield (Stratholme Past, Mal'ganis) enchanted with Exceptional Stamina (sorry it’s not in Alla’s database yet)

Ranged
Weighted Throwing Axe (Storm Peaks quests) or if you want to really spend some money Armor Plated Combat Shotgun (Engineering) socketed with Solid Sky Sapphire

Great list Bigdaddy. I'm sure I'll be referencing this list once I start leveling my warrior. I do have one suggestion though. It would be really nice if you could also list where/how the item is acquired, be it through a drop from an instance or a quest reward.

Don't forget that the Tempered Saronite Set can be used to fill in a few gaps and get to your magic 535 Defense for Heroics. I'm not sure if any of it is best in slot (I don't think it is), but it can be useful if the game is being stingy on drops.

Tempered Saronite is great for boosting your defense.

One of the nice things I've noticed about drops so far is that you always seem to have a pretty good chance of getting what you're going after. Most bosses only have 3 blues in their drop table, so you've got a 1 inn 3 chance of getting the item you want. On final bosses in a dungeon it seems they have anywhere from 6 to 8, so your chances are 1 in3 to 1 in 4 depending on the individual boss.

In regards to where it comes from, I'll go in there and edit the post to add that to it.

Lazy people like myself everywhere will thank you. This will save us 2-3 mouse clicks per item :)

Nice guide!

Don't forget to mention the Engineering items that can be crafted, some for even non-engineers (even though some may not have the resources to make them pre-heroics, but could still be an option):

Sonic Booster Is a nice health trinket for those who don't have any good BC trinkets to work with (like myself). Also adds a nice amount of AP on occasion for many of our abilities. Engy-only item.

Armor Plated Combat Shotgun is a nice weapon for any tank, regardless of if they are an engineer or not. The mats are pretty expensive, but it is a great weapon nonetheless.

Armored Titanium Goggles is a great choice, but like the BC one, it is Engy-only.

Don't forget about Dorian's Prybar if you do not need the extra defense offered from the Weighted Throwing Axe.

Hope you don't mind me adding these suggestions to this great list :)
