I wish.. you still have to see the trainer in shadowmoon or you can talk to the trainer in Dalaran.

Because it can be used at any riding skill, and it's a unique mount.

I'm going to bye it once I'm 70. Already got the gold waiting for me. Then all I have to do is raise another 3.5k and I'll have max training...not counting training in NR. >< I'll be glad when its all said and done with lol

Yes, it can be used at any riding skill. We were also given free epic land mounts with no strings or (deeply involved) quests attached.

I would have skipped this mount if they hadn't changed it from the original plucked chicken looking thing they had planned. I'm glad they kept the chicken mounts for the flight points out of Ebon Hold. This way I'll feel all nice and shiny at 70.

Unique stigma isn't enough to spend near 1k. If it looked good(evil, badass, deathknightly?) I might have, but it still is ugly.

There's the added point that, since my DK will no longer ever visit Outlands again and that you have to wait until lvl 77 to fly in Northrend, I have 7 levels to go before I will need a flying mount. It would be a complete waste of my time and money to get a flying mount until then.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. I'm gonna buy my flight training at 70, then wait till 77 and see what my money situation looks like. If I have the money then I'll buy it, it, if not, regular mount will work till I do.

I bought mine. I'm still gathering herbs for sale in the outlands, as well as doing the cooking and fishing dailies.

And .. I wanted it.

I was able to make enough gold for epic skill and mounts for two other characters. I'll find a way with this one.

The DK mount is completely worth buying, if for no other reason than it looks better than most of the other flying mounts you can easily obtain. Once you get your hands on a Frost Wyrm or something I imagine you won't be using it again, but in the meantime it is part of your character's identity and looks much coooler than a Windrider. The only immediately obtainable mount Id consider otherwise would be the Cenarion Hippogryph, but the effort involved in that is much, much higher and it costs a fortune.

As for skill... trust me, you NEED Epic flying skill for Icecrown or Storm Peaks, there just isnt another option really. In TBC you could get away with the normal speed mount because most of the travelling was done in a flat plane, and you only needed flight to get to certain places like TK; this was essentially an artificial progress barrier, and Epic skill was more for convenience.

In WotLK however, the high-level zones seem designed with Epic flight in mind; without it, trips to quest areas are agonizingly slow air-swims that can take 4-5 minutes, rather than a speedy little 30sec jaunt on your nice quick mount. Remember also that On a Pale Horse applies to 280% mounts, so you will be going at a truly phenomenal speed.

Just save the gold and buy it; there really isnt a good reason not to.

it isnt too easy for a dk to make 5k (swift) + 1k (cold weather) + 900 (flying) + 200 (mount) between 55 and 77. although if i did more gathering i might have been able to.

with the way quests in northrend give out so much money, i see it being much easier getting an epic flyer than it was in tBC though. especially at 80

Where do you get the DK FLying mount? SMV still or somewhere in Ebon Hold that I'm missing?

Death Gate into Ebon Hold and you should be on the upper balcony. You'll be facing towards the inner rooms so turn to your right, maybe a little diagonal towards where your back is facing too, there should be a guy sitting mounted on a DK flying mount (he's blood elf, if I remember correctly). Move your cursor over him and you'll see it become a bag, signalling that you can purchase from him. He'll sell you the DK flying mount.

I just dinged 77 and picked up my flying mount and... man, I need to get that extra 5000g ASAP. I remember once upon a time when the 60% speed increase seemed fast. Ouch.
