Need a little help adjusting to the class changesFollow

So I've been gone for about 8 months now because of the birth of my son and am just now starting to get back into it. My Hunter is lvl 70 with T4+ gear, but now I'm not sure how best to play my class. My basic question is have the class changes (no linked auto shots, pet talent tress, 51 point talents, etc...) changed the playstyle of the class much? Without shot rotations do you just spam your Steady and Arcane shots with a few stings here and there but play as normal? What's the best DPS spec now for dungeons/ raiding? I wanna get back into it ASAP but need a little help.

Thanks for the help.

Please browse through the forum at least a little bit before you start asking questions. These topics have been covered in detail in recent threads, so you'd be best off starting there and then asking for clarification.

For your shot cycle it depends on your spec, steady is everyone's main, most specs will maintain serpent due to glyphs and MM will use Chimera whenever it's up. Specs are still under speculation really. Pets are awesome, make sure you go to the pet talent page and pick their talents. experiment and have fun.

Thanks for the replies, I already have a Death Knight, it's awesome, but I'm getting anxious to get to Northrend and my DK is only 64 atm. I guess I'll just hop on my Hunter and learn how to play him again, I just thought about getting some insight from people before I jumped on.

Hunter is cake-walk in Northrend. Toss your old macros and make new ones. You'll find that you don't even have to have them but some programming is nice to auto trigger certain things. Take a look at some of the past threads, they go into detail on the issues.

I haven't been challenged by anything but my own mistakes and slow PC. That's solo work anyway. Haven't done instances and such yet.

Your 3:2 macro will still work, it's just not needed. Don't bother with Arcane shot unless you're moving. It costs more mana, but doesn't do a whole lot more damage than steady. Don't worry about any stings until you get Glyph of Steady Shot.

Other than that, the biggest change to the hunter class has been Gorillas. They're the new boars... on crack. Get one. Love one.

I like my black lion thank you very much, best DPS pet back then and best DPS pet now... so i've heard. I hopped on to my Hunter yesterday and found that nothing has really changed as far as playstyle goes but I'll have to get back into it and do instances to fine tune my cooldown rotations and such, but thanks for the insight guys.

Well the biggest reason hunters now choose Gorilla's over anything else is for the AE factor. Our Volley spell has been buffed significantly, and even now in T6 gear, semi-raid buffed at level 80 (SV spec), my Volley is critting upwards of 2K per second on each mob. AE grinding with a Gorilla is just so much easier and fun over the previous sic pet, kill mob, rinse repeat. It puts a new spin on things, the only down side is that Volley uses a lot more durability on your ranged weapon, so take it into consideration if you ever decide to go that route.

For DPS, sure stick with your cat, but for normal grinding and questing, Gorilla's are king.
