BM hunter stealing hate from pet?Follow

#1 Nov 24 2008 at 4:54 PM Rating: Default
Why am I stealing hate from my cat in NR. I am doing the same rotation as before in Outlands. Send pet at 90% health I open up with steady shot followed by arcane shot. By then My pet has used 2 growls. Do I have him specced wrong for NR: http://www.wowhead.com/?petcalc=0md00fz00h0o

Here is my armory. I don't know why. But soon as steady shot hits the mob comes runnin after me and I have to use FD right then and my pet can't seem to get hate back even when I stop firing. Is NR cursed for hunters. I'm just soloing from 70-80 like most and well this is posing a problem for me. If I'm going to steal hate that easy I might as well spec MM. Here's my armory so you can look. I'm using 50/11/0 buildhttp://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Aerie+Peak&n=Sulvain

Maybe you all can shed a ray of light on this situation. Thanks for those whome reply

Others may post the same, and I'm not sure if it's fixed in the current patch but:

There was a problem with Pet abilities toggling themselves back on when zoning.
Bring up your Spells & Abilities book and switch to the pet page. See if Cower has toggled itself back on.
It it has, it's possible that Cower is firing instead of Growl (since they share a cooldown now).
I have Cower on my pet toolbar, just to keep an instant check that it hasn't re-enabled itself.

I had this problem myself recently, I don't think it's fixed. My pet's Cower ability had somehow enabled itself after it was deactivated (I had triple checked) and was wreaking mayhem on threat management. Insidious and very annoying.

Yeah, I thought that it was fixed, but last night I saw "Resist: Cower" flash across my SCT last night. My Gorilla was casting Cower instead of Growl.

But if you turn Cower off, and you're still pulling aggro from your cat, try a Tenacity pet for leveling. Tenacity pets have talents that increase the amount of threat Growl generates. It's really nice.
#5REDACTED, Posted: Nov 24 2008 at 8:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you look in the spell book. Even though cower is off. Its still being cast. I do not have it on my tool bar. But I havn't really had a problem tell northrend. First auto shot the mob is on me. I'm about to say hell with hunter and work on another class.

Is it being cast or is it just cooldown you see in spell book?

Btw. Does pet get new rank of growl at 80 or are the ranks removed?

Get a threat addon and get a different pet. Gorillas and bears, worms, all work better for leveling.

Cats are fine, I leveled 70-80 with a cat and zero threat issues.
hell, my cat tanked a couple of group elites without issues too.
(part of that is using 2pc T5 though)

Just make sure you have growl on and cower off, and use Aspect of the Beast.
Your dps is slightly less, but your pet becomes hard to pull aggro from.

I do not keep cower on my pet bar. I do check it when I first log on though. If you turn it off, it should remain off for the session, at least I've never had it turn on in the middle of a session.

Morris holds plenty of threat. The mobs might start towards me with their dying breath but that's fine by me, it's one less hit on Morris and no hits on me. The only mobs that seem to hit me are the ones that aggro on me from behind.

Anyone else notice that we seem to have a very large aggro range on Northrend? I mean I'm up against 68 & 69 mobs and they are aggroing on me like 70+ mobs do in outlands. Aggro range also seems to drop when mounted, not sure why that is... maybe there's a new time in range formula.

I noticed the large aggro range, just extra exp cause they die like lvl 68.

Cower bug sucks, but my cat seems to hold aggro as long as I check that. Prowl bug is annoying as hell too.

Gorilla is really overrated IMO. It is just the illusion of grinding faster, I used one with AOE killing for a couple of levels. Switched back to cat for instance and did a couple quests and noticed that my "old" method of send pet and kill to 1/2 targets and move to the next one was quicker. Especially with the amount of mana used by Volley.

Sorry to go off on a tangent but just thought I would share about the gorilla as I now have a lvl 80 ferocity pet at lvl 80 which is the real bonus to using your DPS pet while leveling. Ding 80->gratz->heroic Halls of Lightning 10 mins later.

LOL at mental frog again

It's not casting, it just shares a cooldown with Growl.

I haven't checked it lately since I now have cower on my petbar, but before I moved it there my toon was bugged to reset cast options every time I mounted and dismounted. I would turn off cower, ride to a questing area, dismount and immediately pull aggro. When I look at my pet's spellpage, he was casting cower again. Like numerous people have stated, the petbar is the best place for this pet skill.
