Petopia says that they are level 6-7, but located in Howling Fjord. Is this a mistake?

If not, is it similar to burning crusade where you can get summoned out there no matter what your level is? I would love to tame one of these things on a new hunter. It's a carrion bird that isnt ugly as sin for low levels :)

Also, as a side note, how well do these perform as tanks with the new changes? Not as good as a gorilla I would assume, but I dislike them and like birds so...yea. I know the carrion birds arent "tank type" pets but that never stopped me from using a ravager in the old game as my tank.

It's not a mistake. Just take someone with you.

As for the tanking thing: They're ferocity pets now. They have medium health and low armor, so they're a little squishier than a Tenacity or even Cunning pet. But that shouldn't stop you from being able to level with it. I could still level with my cat, but I just prefer my Gorilla for the AoE threat.

You need to bribe three people actually. One has to be a warlock, plus two other buddies to summon you to HF once they've cleared all the aggressive mobs in the immediate area.

Mages don't summon, they open portals. A mage could get you to Dalaran easy, but that's not near Howling Fjord, which would mean a LONG and extremely painful run for you. A warlock and two buddies can summon another party member to anywhere...

The biggest difference for solo-leveling between tenacity and ferocity is durability vs. kill-speed. A tenacity pet can take a serious beating, but they can't dish out the damage like a ferocity pet can. I personally prefer leveling with a ferocity pet. I keep a warpstalker in the stables for tougher quests (I've tried the gorilla, but I just don't like AoE grinding that much, and a gorilla's single-target threat is a touch lackluster).

I tamed a daggercap hawk last night. I like that skin better than my prior carrion bird. Screech helped our pally tank on an Utgarde Keep run.
