So before spell damage / crit was important for fire, as I remember...now we have spell haste/spelldamage/spell crit, etc etc...as a frost specced mage, what should i focus on?

Here's my armory if it helps:

with what goal? raiding? pvp?

right now your hit is terrible, it needs to be at 289 (after all buffs/debuffs) or closer to 500 without them (edit: 447 for 17% + hit and 368 with just elemental precision). spellcrit isn't all that important as you will be going off of fof procs (with shatter), shoot for haste + dmg (but mostly damage).

My goal is mainly PVE, I will PVE with my friend on occasions, maybe shoot for the arena pvp gear but as a side goal...
As i understand I should now focus on haste/spell damage items, not crit? I will do so, its a good thing i grabbed a haste/spell damage trinket from one of the quests instead of the crit one to test haste out =]...

Anobix ... with that in mind ... a piece of your wisdom, if you would.

There's a quest line in Borean Tundra I'm shooting for at the moment. It has a choice of 2 staves ...

Tower of the Infinite Mind
Binds when picked up
Two-Hand Staff
168 - 312 Damage Speed 3.00
(79.9 damage per second)
+55 Stamina
+41 Intellect
Durability 100 / 100
Equip: Improves hit rating by 32 (2.03% @ L70).
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 36 (1.63% @ L70).
Equip: Increases spell power by 199.

and

Staff of the Purposeful Mendicant
Binds when picked up
Two-Hand Staff
168 - 312 Damage Speed 3.00
(79.9 damage per second)
+52 Stamina
+39 Intellect
+36 Spirit
Durability 100 / 100
Equip: Improves haste rating by 37 (2.35% @ L70).
Equip: Increases spell power by 199.

Now initially, I would guess the 2nd one is for Healers, and the first is for Mages. However, from a frost levelling perspective, haste is surely a better bet than hit .... or is it. In this situation, do I stick with the clear fav for a mage (the infinite mind one), or dump the crit and hit for the haste and some spirit. Hmmm, did I just answer my own question there ? ;-)

you are correct in that it is itemized a bit better for healers (sadly, spirit is still craptastic for mages, but they made warlocks want it /sigh).

You have to remember that your hit/crit/haste will scale quite poorly with level (expect at level 80 for it to be in about half of what it currently is), so overall it is up to you. If you find yourself low (overall) on spellhit, go ahead and grab that, it is a decent chunk of hit before you run the amphitheater in Zul'drak and get the slobberknocker (replaced my Zhar'doom :-() And I will tell you that I miss when I don't crit on shatters and such, so I would go ahead and grab the first one.
