About a year ago, I decided I was going to cash in on the possibility that Death Knights would be starting at 55, and would be needing higher level 50 and lower level 60 plates (pref blues) in order to get a kick start. 99% of DK's would be supported by sugar daddy mains, so buying up blue BoE Plate and weapons and reselling them for massively inflated prices wouldn't even go noticed, as they would almost certainly be snapped up regardless of cost ... right ?
Anyway, at the time, I knew of one particular item that would (should) be very much in demand ... The Blade of Misfortune - and there were 3 in the AH ranging from 80-100g. Now this was a year ago, and they had been steadily declining in price before that, as well as always being available. So I decided to leave it, and wait until they dropped further ... and they did.
A few months ago, I could have picked up 4 ranging between 30-50g. But it was around the same time that the details of the DK were starting to come through, together with the fact that they would get free blue plate anyway ... and a blue, good quality, weapon. I swore under my breath and having been diddled out of a money making opportunity, and quickly forgot the idea - what was my mistake - yeah - I didn't look at the stats closely enough (I read the BoM DPS as 60, not 68).
Y'all know the rest - BoM is on the AH for around 500-750g on my server, and they're selling (supporting my assumption that some people will pay pretty much anything for something they think they need).
Now I'm down on 2 counts - 1) I could have made a lot of money had I just paid slightly closer attention (68 dps > 60 DPS ... duh), and 2) I could have had a kickass sword as an interim replacement having paid next to nothing for it - no chance of that now.
*sigh* oh well.
