About a year ago, I decided I was going to cash in on the possibility that Death Knights would be starting at 55, and would be needing higher level 50 and lower level 60 plates (pref blues) in order to get a kick start. 99% of DK's would be supported by sugar daddy mains, so buying up blue BoE Plate and weapons and reselling them for massively inflated prices wouldn't even go noticed, as they would almost certainly be snapped up regardless of cost ... right ?

Anyway, at the time, I knew of one particular item that would (should) be very much in demand ... The Blade of Misfortune - and there were 3 in the AH ranging from 80-100g. Now this was a year ago, and they had been steadily declining in price before that, as well as always being available. So I decided to leave it, and wait until they dropped further ... and they did.

A few months ago, I could have picked up 4 ranging between 30-50g. But it was around the same time that the details of the DK were starting to come through, together with the fact that they would get free blue plate anyway ... and a blue, good quality, weapon. I swore under my breath and having been diddled out of a money making opportunity, and quickly forgot the idea - what was my mistake - yeah - I didn't look at the stats closely enough (I read the BoM DPS as 60, not 68).

Y'all know the rest - BoM is on the AH for around 500-750g on my server, and they're selling (supporting my assumption that some people will pay pretty much anything for something they think they need).

Now I'm down on 2 counts - 1) I could have made a lot of money had I just paid slightly closer attention (68 dps > 60 DPS ... duh), and 2) I could have had a kickass sword as an interim replacement having paid next to nothing for it - no chance of that now.

*sigh* oh well.

Hell, after reading this post I'm mad that I did get an 8 DPS increase. I had a Blade of Misfortune drop for me off one of the first half-dozen mobs I killed in Outland and figured, "What the hell, I might as well equip it." I would have much rather gotten a couple hundred gold out of it.

You overpricing bastards need to burn in hell!! IN HELLL!!! :P

I bought a two handed mace with 70dps and 48st for 10g. Mind you it was available at 64 only, but even so - I don't understand why you would want to blow 500-700g just to be slightly above par for a little while. If you have several thousand gold - hell go for it, if not...don't ***** yourself into buying this.

Waste of valuable gold.

Heh, well in my defense, I didn't actually do it ... so I can't be accused of ripping anyone off ... I wanted to, but didn't (does that still make me a ******* ;->)

And yeah - definitely a waste of gold nowadays ... especially considering the upgrdaes you can get very early on in HFP and ZM (heck, I can even make a Fel Iron Broadsword for level 63 which isn't half bad)

Seeing as this was brought back up front again ... I've been levelling my profs on my DK (very leisurely pace) ... ANd I looked on the AH for the Blade of M again (habit) .. and bam ... saw one for 50g ... snapped it up quickly. Yesterday, I saw 2 more up - 450 and 500 a piece. So either the seller of the one I got was oblivious to the market, or he's been trying to sell it at inflated prices, and it's not working any more.

Anyway, happy me, I can stop moaning now ;-)

I used the Blade of Misfortune on my Hunter (I know, not really a hunter weapon, but I liked the look).

I have a DK now, but cannot give him the Blade (that's in my bank now) because now it's soulbound :(

I don't think that you understand the economy in the game. If I said to myself "Bludfury would buy this mace if I put it in the AH for 50G instead of 500G", and did so... Bludfury wouldn't end up with the mace. Instead, Zomgcheap would buy it, put it up for 500 and make a 450G profit. It's not overpricing as long as someone is willing to pay the amount. That puts the reason for your gripe in doubt.

You call it overpricing... is that because you don't know how to make gold, or that you do know how to make gold but are too lazy to do it, or that you just know nothing about economy in general?

I won't read the post, but I'll agree with the OP's title just for moral support.
