arcane spec for pvp/pve?Follow

#1 Nov 20 2008 at 6:10 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,
i have played a mage since honor was introduced, was frost then, and picked up fire in bc. arcane always seemed lame, so i was never tempted. i havent been able to play in the past 2 months cause of irl craps, so i havent been able to do my own testing. with the new trees tho, i likes arcane. i always hated respeccing pve to pvp, but i think with a 60/11/0 spec you could be pretty nice with both. maybe not top dps possible, or maybe not shoulder arena status, but nice for both. basically anyone that likes the arcane tree like i do and have tried it out, i would love some feedback. cheers

And i do have alot of exp with mage, but have not tried out any of the new talents. most is heresay, and guessing based on past mage knowledge. spell impact is nice jus for the arc blast, but 6% i dunno. magic absorbtion looks nice on paper, but not sure how great it will stand up. technically could get imp scorch too, saccing some arc shtuff, but who wants to weave that crap into an arc build. oh and2nd tier fire, maybe full ignite is worth it for the pyro/fb's but eh, im no math major, or english. please be gentle.

There are still a few problems with not redistributing your talents when you go from pvp to pve.

-Incanter's Absorption is awesome for pvp and has no cap so it can be useful for pve situation where you want to intentionally jack up your spellpower by soaking some splash damage.

-Arcane mediation is fairly useless in pvp but incredible for pve.

-Spell Impact is very nice for Fire/Arcane blast and Arcane Explosion damage boost.

-Magic Attunement is nice for pvp but less useful for pve, especially if you incorporate fire blast into your spell rotation due to it's short range.

-Pyroblast is essentially a waste of a point for pve. It's nice for ganking people but that really isn't very hard with arcane anymore. Fireball or Arcane Blast work almost as well and Arcane Blast can proc missile barrage to boot.

-Focus Magic is pve onry except maybe arena groups.

-Arcane Shielding and Arcane Fortitude are great for pvp.

Seems like you're aware of the trade offs involved with going for a hybrid PVP/PVE spec so I guess I don't know what else you're looking for. Every pvp talent you pick up probably reduces your dps and the pve talents you get likely sacrifice some survivability you can use in pvp situation.

that is a copy of my arcane spec.

I am mostly a pve mage.

I am just gonna go over the gists of the spec.

Arcane Focus (pve/pvp) = 3% more to hit
Spell Impact (pve/pvp) = 6% increased damage on listed spells
focus mage (pve) = 3% more crit (you cast this on other magic uses like boomkins, mages, and such)
Arcane Med. (pve) = 30 percent more mana regen

Torment of the weak (pve/PVP) = when maxed out it can deal 12 percent more damage with listed spells when targets are snared. Slow and Frostfire bolt are considered snares...Frostfire works on bosses when most bosses are immune to slow. Even if slow effect doesnt work it is still considered snared.

POM (pve/pvp) = makes a spell instant cast, it has its uses in pve fore pumping out damage. if you speced arcane potency when you activate this it crits for 30 percent more damage..the timer on POM can be dropped from 3 mins to two mins also.

Arcane power (pve/pvp) = this ability will increase your damage by alot..but it will eat through your mana like it was nothing.
arcane empowerment (pve/pvp) = for those that favor missles/arcane blast

Missle barrage (pve) = this gives listed spells a chance to proc a faster cast of your missles..in pvp this might be usefull, but you cant count on a 20 percent proc rate and in pvp your gonna want to rely more on getting away and instant casts.

Spell Power (pve/pvp) = increase crit damage bonus on all spells by 50 %

Arcane Barrage (pve/pvp) = instant cast arcane damage spell with a 6 sec recast...you can cast this inbetween almost any spell.

The rest of the spec can be used as you see fit if your more into pve or pvp. This is just the major stuff.

Yea i realize im saccing stuff for either pvp or pve, just wanted a cheap way out. wanted pyro for pve and pvp which i dont think is bad for a 2 min pom. guess ill just have to respec back n forth which is fine i guess. id rather go frostfire for pve anyways. but thanks for the input.
