For 'normal' class, sticking in Plagueland for 1 or 2 more level is smart - your gear will usually suck and you're not the power house a DK is at that level. But a DK not going to Outland right away is hurting himself - you're in prime quality blue gear and you're a god at that level range. It won't be any harder then plagueland, but you'll get more xp out of everything.

And yet, the speed leveling guide on deathknight.info ALSO recommends Plaguelands, for both factions. See any trends here? Despite the claims of not really having to backtrack, there's a score of quests which aren't available below 60 in HFP. It isn't about difficulty, it's about speed and efficiency.

Then there's the other factor. Yes, you seriously outgear stuff in HFP with the blue starter kit. The advantage narrows in Zangarmarsh, and evens out in Terokkar. Starting with PL you keep a 2-3 levels advantage throughout Outlands. Heck, with a week worth's of rest exp due to business travels, my DK just dinged 68 in bloody Terokkar. The other way round you're at the very least at the end of Nagrand or most probably in the middle of BEM. Huge zones, with long traveling times. The second tier of Nesingwary quests has mobs which are yellow in part, spaced out and AoE unfriendly, and half a zone away from the quest giver. It's just an example, but all these elements eventually add up. For every single mob I kill in Outlands I kill it faster because they're yellow / green to me at all times. I may get 10% less exp out of them but I get the exact same quest exp, and gain a lot more time out of it. Last but not least, on a PvP server, being two-three levels ahead of the competition when killing the same quest mobs is often also a vast difference between continuing to quest or doing a corpse run.

Just try it once. You'll never look back.

Tried it before. Tried it again my way, and my way works better.

When I have no issues killing 2x 77 elites with 136k HP on them solo, I think DKs are powerful enough to go to Outland at 58 and Northrend at 68. Smiley: wink

BTW, there is no backtracking involved in questing in HFP. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Blizzard designed the area with level 58s in mind, same as they did with Northrend and 68s.

I didn't do a lot of quests in Nagrand/Terrokkar, but I dinged 5-6 quests into BEM. Even if you go to HFP at 58, you should be able to ding 68 in Nagrand easily.

I completely disagree Tyr, and I've used every build at some point in leveling.

Blood has been by far the fastest for me, as I can take on just as many mobs (record is 11 even-level mobs on me at once) and still put out more damage and keep myself healed better.

I'm trying to make sense of this, and it really doesn't Theo.

Some simple facts:

- Blood and Unholy single target damage is highly similar
- Unholy AE damage is WAY better.
- Gargoyle is much better then DRW with low level gear.

Add those together and tell me how blood can be more effective to level?

I tried every spec (even Tri-Spec dw) while leveling as well, I'll give Blood that - your health never moves, and you never ever die. Odds of dying as Frost or Unholy are certainly higher then in Blood... which is why you need to play it well and play it smart... Blood cannot touch Unholy if Unholy is played well. ;p

Outbreak, Wandering Plague, Ebon Plague, Unholy Blight allows you kill Dozen of mobs in the time Blood kills 2. You don't need the self heal, they die so fast you barely need to use a Death Strike to keep yourself up.

Hell, you're 77 as blood... you'd have been 80 as unholy in the same time.

Seriously, if you're putting up more damage as Blood then as Unholy against multiple targets, you're doing something terribly wrong as unholy pretty much by definition.

Knowing how to play as Blood makes the spec better.

That almost made me laugh at loud.

What is there to know? The art of using vampiric blood before you use rune tap? >_>

Blood is the training wheel spec as far as leveling go. It has the easiest rotation of the 3 and it has more 'oh sh*t I pulled to many mobs!' button then the two others.

You're almost starting to come off as a spec fanboy here Theo, what with flatout claiming Blood is the best dps tree when everything else I've read says unholy is better (or at least equal). Kinda like those TBC Dagger rogue who wouldn't give up the dream.
