Some advice for a new mageFollow

I am looking for a little advice, but not a lot.

I just want to know what you think is a good talent tree for a soloing pve mage.

I do not want to know what talents to use, I will figure that out myself. I would just like to know which tree would be best to start with on as a new mage.

Thx for any advice.

The fun thing is, all 3 trees are, though in different ways.

Frost allows you to kite, kite, slow, snare, kite, kite some more and eventually kill your opponent (though still at a pretty fast rate).

Fire allows you to wait a minute for your mana to get up, then another minute before your spell launches, after which you 1, 2 or 3-shot your enemy.

Arcane... is a healthy mix of both, I suppose, even though it's more concieved as a PvP tree. Don't be mistaken though, it's definitely on par for PvE.

So basically... Pick what you like most, anything works.

Thank you for the info.

I did not know if their was a certain tree to use like

Hunter = BM
Paladin = Ret
Priest = Shadow
Druid = Feral

But if I can do any tree with mage than I will pick the one I feel like and go with that.

I think all the trees are ok now but i prefer Frost as it gives me far more time to react.

If you pick the talents that speed up casting at first then any that can slow the enemy in frost you will not regret it , then its a case of checking up here which further talents to take , but then again it sounds lke you may have other classes and fire is slightly faster at first but of course means no slowing effects so the mobs get to you at full speed , as for arcane not sure on that for a low level character since the new talents came as i have yet to try it.

Frost at level 30+ starts to get very good fun , collect a few mobs together freeze them and a blizzard and watch the pretty numbers fly as the mobs die , if they are still alive a second blizzard always seems to finish off mobs for me , and of course a blink to escape when things go wrong , one tip is get the Evocation glyph when you can as that can be a life saver as it heals as well as refreshes manna.

Aye, that's true. If you're new to the mage class you might want to roll frost just to play it safe; the words "glass cannon" are an understatement to the way the fire tree works.

Be glad about it though, mage is now one of the few classes where all 3 talent trees are viable for anything.

I second what sandralover said. While it is true that any of the builds are good for leveling (because lets be honest, mages are about damage and nothing else), frost is the best leveling tree because it gives you more survivability than fire or arcane. The first talents you're going to want to put into the frost tree are in the Frostbolt talent that takes off .5 seconds off the cast time. It may not seem like .5 seconds is that much, but it can really make a difference, especially during the lower levels when the casting time is a lot lower. Plus when you hit level 50 and get the water elemental, you get a pet to help kill stuff.

I didn’t read the other posts, so I’m not sure of what advice you’ve been given…

In my opinion, if you want the best PVE build for a solo mage who will occasionally run instances on the trip from 1 – 80 ---- You go Frost.

Arcane really comes into prominence when you get slow. Slow is a deep arcane talent and won’t be accessible for a while. Also, arcane is not very mana efficient. You’ll be drinking a lot of water.

Fire is viable, but unlike frost will not offer you the control and survivability. Fire kills with huge hits. Frost kills with big hits and a lot of control. That might not seem too different, but trust me, it is…

Mobs hit by frost are slowed. You can get in an extra shot as they approach you, you get better CC options… Mobs hit by fire run at you at full speed. Your goal is to kill them before you get hit. This is easier to do with frost.

Frost rotation - Frost Bolt, Frost Bolt, Frost Bolt, Nova, Backup, Frost Bolt – Dead
Fire rotation – Pyro, Fireball, Mob hits you, Fire Blast – Dead.

Just go frost - "In frost we trust"
