Observation on initial gear upgrades for Boomkin in WotlkFollow

Is it just me or are the initial Leather quest rewards heavily slanted towards feral?
I have done most of the Tundra and Fjord quests and made a dent in the Dragonblight ones and ended up most of the time picking the plate reward to vendor. I am relatively new to Balance having played feral for years so maybe I have an unwarranted hesitation of picking cloth rewards.
I got a few nice upgrades from Nexus (and yes, I am wearing cloth shoes as http://www.wowwiki.com/Attuned_Crystalline_Boots were just too good to pass on for me).

So, should I just switch out leather gear for cloth upgrades as I level when appropriate or hang in there waiting for better leather gear?

Caster means cloth is ok. Leather is better but no shame in wearing cloth

I've run into some pretty nice Caster Leather, however my epics have still remained just a shade better than the ones I've seen. Can't wait til I leave Borean Tundra and see what upgrades the higher areas have.

There isn't a lot of leather caster gear. I'm actually seeing more mail caster gear for quest rewards. I've only replaced three things and I'm level 75. All my gear was from za up to bt including badge gear so yes, I'm also a little concerned with the gear.

I'm feral, but on this subject of upgrading gear, I can't WAIT for Emmerald's list to get updated with the Northrend stuff. I checked the forum and didn't see any clear answer as to why it hasn't happened yet or when it might. Between haste now being a more useful stat for us (right?) and armor penetration popping up more frequently, and agility getting hit with the nerfstick, I'm starting to gather a set of Northrend greens that I don't THINK are upgrades, but might be. Thinking gives me a headache, even Rawr is too much work...I need my Emmerald ranked list!

Emmerald is very busy at the moment. He is bulding outside steps to his house, has to keep his family happy and would also rather be playing than spending hours working on the lists :)

Having said that, he is makig progress and it shouldn't be too much longer.

In the meantime, have a look at Toskk's calculator & Rawr. Both can be found at druid.wikispaces.com

Just have to forget for a while that you've spent months and months gathering badge and raid gear. If you go to Northrend as a fresh 68 or 70, the rewards are just as impressive as they were after completing the first few quests in Outland. It's just like Blizzard said, the BC epics will last til the mid-70 before they get replaced. But.. if you were gathering off-spec sets, doing quests in Borean Tundra should still feel like Christmas.

I mean, look at "Tower of the Infinite Mind" or "Staff of the Purposeful Mendicant" as rewards from "Last rites" (or whatever it's called on Horde side)... There was nothing even close outside of Kara, Heroic Magister's Terrace, or grinding up a bazillion points in AV.

And what I didn't see in actual armor pieces yet, I saw in rings and necks, so I think it's all good.

I think that quest reward leather being slanted toward physical stats is warranted because it's perfectly acceptable for moonkins to wear cloth (armor is not a core balance stat), whereas there is not a scrap of cloth armor that rogues and ferals can use. So you've got two classes/specs with no alternative but physical leather (plus hunters also wearing some physical leather) and one class/spec that has an alternative that uses caster leather (and I guess ele shammies might use it too, but they even use bits of cloth as well as their mail).

As others have said, Bliz was much more carefull this time around and raid epics will not be replaced soon. I am lv 74 and have replaced only one item (cloak) and it was in fact my worst piece. I have all badge/Hyjal/BT epics and based on stats seen so far probably won't replace them until 75-76 if then. I have run some instances where lv 76 stuff dropped and it was better in some ways (stats and spellpower)but worse in others (regen) to what I had.

One thing that does concern me is that 90% of the caster gear I have seen so far is DPS based. It has all been crit/haste/spellpower with some sprit, but no +mp5. Being Resto I have a lot of regen right now with spirit and +mp5 gear and it works well for me. I am concerned with the possible lack of +mp5 gear for Druid healers. And so far, the increase in spirit seen has not compensated for the lack of +mp5.

I've noticed the same and as someone who was basically kara geared with 3pc t4 I have only replaced a few of my epics at lvl 76. Some of the quest rewards have been nice but I've passed them up due to lack of something on it compared to what I am using.
Besides trinkets my shoulders and shoes I'm still wearing most of my epics..
I replaced my spirit stick with a much better one but my main weapons are still lights justice and the voodoo. Also I was resto before speccing to balance so what I have switched was to increase crit% while attempting to keep some mana regen which as noted seems to be lacking while leveling.
