1) Concerning the 4 middle icons (Growl, Cower, Claw, ?), is it turned on when highlighted or is it off?

2) everyone says bear is best for tank until gorilla, so where are the bears? I am troll and just entered The Barrens. It will be sad to let my scorpid go but if bear is the best then so be it.

3) how do you get grid coordinates? In EQ it was /loc

4) are there any quests that will grant me a better bow anytime soon? My toon is in his teens.

1) It is turned on when highlighted. CHeck your spell book as well, as they can be on even if not on your pet's cast bar
2) you won't be able to get a bear until you are in Ashenvale.
4) yes or a gun or get the many drops you will find

Finally, read these forums until your eyes pop out. You will learn everything there is to know and more regarding hunters

as for the coords, you need an addon for that.
check curse and/or wowinterface for the addons.
You'll be able to get anything from just the coordinates on your map/minimap up to completely changing the way your UI looks.

1. put cower in the pets action bar as i think it is still bugged and turns itself on , you should be able to see when it is turned off as it will look a little different to those that are turned on.

2.do not worry about bear as being the best tank as there is nothing wrong with a scorpid , you can check up on pets here or over at Petopia , just pick a pet you like , and try a Boar as there are plenty about and are great fun if you want a fast tank.

3. look up an addon called koordinatoor ( google or curse ect) its about the most simple addon there is and will help a lot.

4. not sure on quest bows as i think they are rare at your level , best bet is learn guns and if you can either find an engineer willing to make you a gun or can find one cheap at auction , that goes for bows as well at auction , i do not recommend buying much at auction as mostly anything you buy will be replaced in a few levels but a decent ranged weapon always is useful and will help kill things much faster.

It is fully possible to get to level 80 without buying anything at all and even if what you have is far lower in level will still kill stuff and protect you a little.

At your level go for anything with +agility any other stats are just a bonus , thats what i always go for and quite happily survive 99% of my playtime.

3) this macro will give you your co-ordinates without lumping in an add-on, which just takes up space and creates problems with every patch:

/script SetMapToCurrentZone() local x,y=GetPlayerMapPosition("player") DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(format("%s, %s: %.1f, %.1f",GetZoneText(),GetSubZoneText(),x*100,y*100))

You can create macros in the game menu (computer icon, lower right buttons on the standard UI).

There's pretty much not a single item left of the Original UI on my computer. Since pre-tbc, I have yet to have a single addon problem. Using Curse Client, I can just once in a while update every last addon I have within a few minutes with two clicks of the mouse. You have to understand that in the last year (and even earlier) Blizzard's been cooperating alot more with the addon codemonkeys, releasing all changes in the LUA codes and UI changes before the patch goes live, allowing them all to update their addons ahead of time.

Addons aren't troublesome anymore. They are pretty much all beneficial, except for that damned Bejeweled addon. The next time I see "XXXX has become a Grand Master in Bejeweled" in raidchat, I'm gkicking the moron.

It's actually more work getting to your peak performance without addons than with addons.

I use Omen, naturally, and half a dozen other useful bits and pieces - about half of which update easily, the other half I've let lapse since the update because they don't update easily.

It's more work getting to your peak physical performance without steroids - I'm one of those 'enjoy the journey' types anyway, so I'd rather use my brain (exercising it to peak performance)to find my way to questgivers, for example, than have another add-on to manage that merely gives me an excuse for not thinking.

Even the glorious work that Blizzard codes for us and itself can create unforseen problems - sooner or later, one of your add-ons will too...and you didn't even need it...

Steroids? Exceptionally faulty metaphor. Enjoying the journey? Still not relevant. Requiring you to think? Oh, the ignorance...

Proper UI modifications will provide you with far more information to process and react upon. They will give you accurate information compared to the guesswork information provided by the default UI. Proper raid UIs will give you such a plethora of information on your raid's status that you are allowed to really think and react/prevent properly. No matter what class you play.

Actionbar mods. These will allow you to properly setup your skills, consumables and other things, adding keybindings and other nifty features which can truly streamline your gametime. This isn't making things easier, quite the contrary. With the standard UI setup, you can't do what I do, and is thus limited by the game, not by your own skill and speed. Then comes things like player/party/raid portraits and such things, which will give you much more information than the standard UI, forcing you to consider quite a few more things than the standard UI allows you to. This makes things even more complicated, and allows the skilled and fast player to really shine.

There's a thousand addons out there. Most of them will actually increase the need for skill, speed, knowledge and mental capacity than the standard UI which is pretty much made for your average mouthbreathing smacktard. Minimal information provided to avoid overheating those tiny little brains.

No custom UI = You are not performing at the level you could be performing at.

I would appreciate a list of the add-ons used by hunters in this forum. I use only a few right now. Omen being my first and still the most useful.

The only addons I run right now are Omen and Recount, because I have a ****** computer that can barely handle WoW on minimal settings, and when I add Vent into that mix, I can barely barely play. I've used action bar mods in the past, but got used to not having it after the patch broke mine, and I haven't been able to find one yet that I like as much as Bongos. (Not to mention, with a small screen size, I don't have a lot of room to modify the UI anyway.) One thing I do, though, is pull out the raid onto my screen so I can keep track of who's alive, who's standing in the cave-in, who I should Distracting Shot off of (better me going down than a clothie who's CCing), and when it's time to run out and feign death. There's not a lot more information I really need--raid leaders use /rw so I don't really need to be running my own boss warnings mod, I'm good at keeping an eye on my own health and mana in the default position (if I ever find an addon that lets me move the character frames without changing the look I might be interested), I keep things in separate bags on purpose so I know where everything else so a bag mod would actually be a pretty poor idea for me. I know how to read quest text to get the information I need, so no need for help there, either.

Addons can make things more streamlined, but there's nothing that makes them necessary.

For add ons I use the following (I keep the up to date using WoWMatrix):

- Omen: threat meter
- Recount: gives party statistics on damage, healing, etc.
- Fizzwidget's Feed-o-matic: feeds your pet in 1 click - not as useful as it used to be before the last patch since we don't have to feed pets much anymore
- Dominos: replaced Bongos for action bar mod
- Bagnon: lets you see all your bags and bank at once
- FuBar: info bars at top/bottom of screen, can download plug-ins for various modules, have used Titan in the past and it is also very good
- Cartographer: map add on that gives coordinates among other things
- Atlas Loot: database of all drops as well as many other items, some people swear by this, I use it occasionally
- Quest Helper: name says it all, this one tends to be a little glitchy but overall I like it - I tried Carbonite Quest and didn't like the interface as much but many people think it is better than Quest Helper
- Deadly Boss Mods: gives info about boss special attacks - very helpful for instances and raiding

I agree with what Isyris said - none of the add-on I use are absolutely essential to my game play but I have found they make certain aspects of play more efficient.

Lots of good luck with your toon!
