Re-stealthinFollow

Hey guys... got another question for ya.

When I'm fighting mobs that are close together, like most people I'll sap one, fight the other. Once the second mob is dead, sometimes I'm able to re-stealth to re-open combat on the other mob, and sometimes I get stuck in combat all the way up until the time the mob gets out of sap, which means I don't get a CS off on them.

My question is, what do I have to do to make sure that I'm able to get out of combat and re-stealth every time I sap something and then kill something else?

If you get caught while sapping before the server recognizes that your Sap lands you can become "in combat" with that mob until you vanish or run out of there. There is, apparently, a short cast time (or swing timer) for Sap and you can be detected during this time. But before the mob can attack you (their own swing timer) the Sap lands and they stand there stunned but still wanting to beat your face.

It's a fun little oddity caused by everyday server lag and minor mechanics. Remember to apply your Sap from directly behind the target whenever possible (Distract often, live more) and that should help a lot.

I have found that also, if you are fighting mob B directly in front of mob A (within agro range) this may count you in combat as well. Kind of like a, "I can't get you now, but as soon as my head stops hurting its on!"

Don't linked mobs also keep you in combat?

I don't believe so. Think of it this way...if the mob you are sapping growls (think Helfire Citadel getting the rear one in the 5 pull at the corner) or moves it's head in any way before the sap, you are going to be stuck in combat. I don't even think resapping works either, tbh.

It's a pain in the *** at lower levels, especially when you are leaving a tunnel or things of that nature. Just be a little more cognizant of your toon in relation to the way the mob is facing. Without improved stealth, you may have to actually use distract! (read: sarcasm)

There aren't really that many linked mobs out in the game world, that's more an instance thing I think (but I could be wrong). (*edit: There are a lot of mobs that are "linked" because of proximity, but these aren't linked mechanically by the game world is my point.)

You can resap "in-combat" mobs far as I know... but why when you can melt their faces!? Kill 'em all, wheeeeeee!!!!!

This does make sense... because often times, I'm doing a drive-by-sapping, where I don't really care WHAT direction I'm hitting 'em from as long as my sap gets off... so I have been known to run straight past a mob spamming f (my sap key) like a maniac. And I have also noticed that sometimes, the mob ends up sapped, but takes a shot at me anyway (which sucks if I don't dodge/parry it. haha) I could definitely see that being the reason I'm stuck in combat afterwards. Happens sometimes when I cheapshot too... I'll get the cs off, but I'll also get swung on by the mob I'm cs'ing.

So the fix for this is simply, be more careful? Easy enough. What about other scenarios where I want to re-stealth? Lets say for example, I blind a mob... I'm under the impression that it's a 6 second wait before I go out of combat in pve, is that true? So could I blind a mob, bandage for 6 seconds, then pop out of combat and re-stealth and re-open?

Thanks again guys!

That's a PvP thing. To get out of combat in PvE you need to run out of prox-aggro range of any hostile mob or Vanish.

Ah. That sucks. And if I run out of that range, that's when the mob resets, gets all it's health back, and goes back to wandering wherever it was when I first jumped it, right?

Also known as 'leashing.' YOINK.

Amusing, possibly related mechanic-wise (though reversely) you can charge mobs, and if they're moving fast enough or if you're lagging that badly, you get teleported, they get stunned but go about their merry way and neither of you are in combat. It's a huge pita.

That, or tell your partymates to do more DPS while you go grab some food.
