DK's Blue GearFollow

I have got my DK to 65 and I questing in outlands now. I have been seeing plenty of DKs around in their blue gears. A few have changed though. The gears you get by completing each quest.

My question is that does the blue gear last till 70? So far tbh I have no problem levelling with these set. Able to hit 2 levels per day. I even saw some of the DKs hitting northrend with the same gear as well. I read somewhere that the only gear you need to change is to grab the blade of misfortune.

So I am alittle confused.

Btw a grp of 5 dks cleared Hell Ramps with no healer. Wonder whether we are imbalanced class. We died a couple of times but we got the quest done though. I may be wrong here.

Thank You and have fun playing DK. I sure am having fun :)

my dk just got into northrend content...just dinged 71 tbh lol
in my leveling i took the starting blue gear up until around 67-68

after that i had most replaced from quest rewards being better...and the fact that +28ap gems on my server
are like 10g >.> so i stacked those for fun haha

but they "can" last you till northrend no problem...but if you find a upgrade go for it lol...nothing beats its cool factor tho...

as for the ramps...i hit 62 with a friend and his bro...we trioed ramps..62(me) 61(him and his bro)
if played right yea dk is op haha...blood=unkillable <,< >.>

thats my 2 cents...

p.s if you havnt seen yet...goto your menu and check death knight voice its cool haha

While I'm sure that there will be people that will try and play with their blues until 70, either for being too cheap to upgrade gear or to try and hold onto the 'coolness' factor of the starting gear, I've upgraded a few pieces already. While at the present state with DK's being able to breeze through quests (I just hit 67 leveling casually, spent a good part of one day leveling up herbalism and mining) you can't go through 70 with the gear, I replaced my gear with better stats ones, even if just to differeniate myself from all the 8,000 DK's I see running around.

Funny thing is when leveling in Hellfire, it's basically the equivalent of the Misc board on any messaging board. I would hear anything from people saying that they would keep their starting gear until level 80 to another player complaining about how Blizzard should keep the same gear you have now and upgrade the stats to gain attributes like you would when you gain levels.

Heres my two cents. I've AH'ed better DK suitable stuff leveling my Paly (Healer so DK appropriate gear wasn't for me) But am gonna miss the "coolness factor" of the starter DK set. I'll just be keeping it in the bank for those "photo op" times and maybe the occasional trip to town.

I kept both my green and blue stuff. I will replace the gear with better as it comes along, but keeping the original two sets in the bank.

Yeah, i'm keeping my original two sets in the bank for nostalgia. A friend of mine made me the fel iron set, so i'm wearing all but the chest, plus the jade warrior pauldrons. I'm now a Green Knight.

I fully intend trying to get to northrend in my original gear - the way I'm going to do this is enchant my gear with cheap enchants (I have a leatherworker and an enchanter (+10 sta heavy clefthide armour for head, chest and boots), +str for bracers and gloves ... my only undecided is whether to buff my legs up with the cobrascale or clefthide armour ... one gives lotsa AP (40, I think), the other gives lotsa Stamina (30, i believe).

So, for the purposes of extending the life of my gear, would you guys suggest AP or STA.

I had replaced replaced most of the starter gear with quest/instance stuff by the mid 60s. The helm, the bracers, the sigil, and one of the trinkets lasted til 68, but all of those (except the sigil) were replaced within the first few hours of northrend questing (and by 71 all my outland gear was gone too.)

I've replaced my shoulders and chest at 63 with a quested chest and brute force things from UB. Gem the shoulders up and they give me a good bit more stamina/def rating. Of course they'll last me till like 66 or so and I'll dump those too probably.

i kept the originals cause they look cool, and i need a reason to use bank slots.
i was replacing stuff constantly in outlands. the moment i hit northrend almost everything got replaced in the first few questlines. (it was very nice to get out of the clownshoes that outlands gives you).

on a side note, the gear difference is so good in northrend, at 68 and 69 i had 33% crit rate with horn up and was tearing stuff up in instances.

...and then by 75 you're down to ~19-20% crit because you're only getting quest greens because you're powering your way to 80.

No? Just me? OK then. Smiley: frown

As long as you look cool 19% crit is ok.
Remember you gotta DW to look cool.

^ LOL

If you were powerleveling to 80 you'd already be there. For myself, I'm taking the sightseeing tour as I already had 5 70s when Lich King hit the stores. My DK is 65 right now. He's going out at 68, but my hunter will be the first toon to 80 followed by my priest.

I'll look cool wearing my goofy mismatched plate with the helm not showing.

Myself i've been a picky one on gear, but i dont see the point not replacing the blues.. why would u slow urself down?

Theres a few items around that are major upgrades, some arent or look awefull :P
Best u can do is look thru items to see if they look cool, if they are above 63ish they are a defo upgrade and will help ;)
When ur 68, go northrend and grind quests to 70, id take borean cause it has slighly easier gear gathering, and theres a questline for a blue axe that will last u past 73

If you're going to Northrend at 68, go Borean -> Fjord -> Dragonblight -> Grizzly Hills -> Zul'Drak -> Sholazar. That should get you to 78/79, then you can progress into Storm Peaks for your last level or two.

I've just started Grizzly Hills, and I'm almost halfway through 75.

While you should definitely start in Borean (the gear from Fjord is just dire for a DK) to get Axe of Frozen Death etc, can I recommend you go to Icecrown at level 78. Icecrown not only grants bags of reputation with two major factions (Argent Crusade/Ebon Blade) it has really good gear, really fun quests and most of all the entire zone is absolutely gorgeous.

Of course, if you dont have epic flight it will be a pretty painful experience.

The hardest part of that grind is getting through Zul'Drak... that place was meant to look all Scourge-ridden and desolate but it just ends up looking like Chernobyl with ziggurats.

While questing in HF, my mage picked up a green level 68 pair of plate pants. When I compare them to my DK's blue starter pants, I gain 30 stamina (pretty chunky), but only 6 more ap and 0.04% crit. I lose about 1.4% parry and gain 1% dodge.

Now, while it may be that these level 68 pants are better than my level 55 blue pants (well, I would hope so), they are only JUST better (especially in terms of damage). Ok, the extra stamina obviously makes the upgrade a no brainer, but the illustration is that at least my pants will quite easily last till northrend, assuming I stick to solo play / quest rewards.

Heck, I could put a clefthide armour kit on, and have that level of gear right now, the armour kit negating the sta deficit, and actually giving me more crit at the end of the day on the DK blue pants.

I've never really been one for keeping gear for aesthetic reasons (I have a few friends who will consciously turn down an upgrade cos it looks bad with the rest of their gear), but I'm starting to have a real attachment to my DK gear, so (where possible), I'll keep it for as long as I can.

As for the theory about being slowed down if you keep the gear ... I blow through 4-5 level 59-60s as a 58 DK now ... it stands to reason that come level 65, 2-3 level 65's will still be a piece of cake, with minimal downtime ... which is more than I could have said for any of my previous toons.
