I decided on Uberkhal for my first DK. The whole reasoning behind it was simple.

My main is a mage named Khalima. I hate rogues deciding to be jerks and attack me. Hence, the DK is going to be pure payback.

I've also decided on "Judicar" for my next DK. Judicar is Latin for "justice".

Then I have a few other names set up...

Archos (Latin for 'Ruler')
Pravus (Latin for 'Evil')
Dominus

Really, a lot of my DK names come from a list of Darth names for a Star Wars fanfic piece I've been toying around with, minus the Darth of course.

I kinda like the names Kanly, Supai, and Bhagavad.

Kanly refers to a formal feud or vendetta fought between two parties or factions, out of the Dune series by Frank Herbert.

Supai was the ancient Incan god of death.

Bhagavad refers to the Bhagavad Gita, a hindu text referenced by Oppenheimer (invented the atomic bomb).
"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."

For my DK's I go for names like Typho, Tyhpon, or Typhos as they are all names a Greek god who had a thousand serpent heads that shot flames. Pretty cool background imo.

I've seen so many variations on "Deathknight" using misspellings and abusing the ASCII extended characters that I just have to shake my head. I am often nearly overcome by the urge to /w them with a question to the effect of, "Are you truly so brain dead and unoriginal that that was the best name you could come up with?" The ASCII character sets at least show a marginal level of intelligence...despite the fact that they get fewer PUG group invites because nobody feels like scrolling up through the trade spam to click on their name, but the misspellings...gawd. Hey thar, Deathkight! Have you talked to Deathkinght today? I heard he was running UK with Deathnite and Dethknight. Oh! And did you hear? Daethknight left his guild last night. Ya...he was choked that Deathknyte got the T7 drop in Naxx instead of him.

-.-

And in general, death knight or not, anyone with semi-literate statement instead of a name irks me. "Willpwnu" "Ubpwnd" "Killufast" are some examples that are really only interesting/amusing when you come across their pwnt corpses in a leveling area.

A play on words can be fun...I lol'd when I saw Moograine earlier in the thread. Even Gnarthvader got a chuckle out of me because it's creative.

If you have to misspell it to get it, it's crap. If you think a variation on the class name is a good way to get started, it's crap. If you think a character name is a place to express how badass you think you are, just remember that even the baddest of baddasses occasionally get their asses handed to them, and if I see it, I will laugh at you.

Other than that, be creative and have fun with it ;D

There are no "cool DK names". Period. Since Death knights are fallen heroes, figure out what the character's name was BEFORE the lich king resurrected him. Did his parents name him "Darthmuffins" before the change? If they didn't, then it's not a "cool" name.

The story behind my characters has my death knight's name as her given middle name. She was known by her first name before and started using her middle name, Azmaria, after death. That said, I had already introduced the living character into my story and that name was taken, so I was forced to find something else.

That said, some people might take a different name in death. Some may choose to only be called by a title(Robert the Blood Thane might become Bloodthane). Or lost in despair, some may take a word that means something relevant to them as their new name(Despair would be a good one). So some non-given names might fit well.

Although earlier I posted about Uberkhal, my roided up DK that was going to extract revenge in the name of Horde Clothies everywhere, as luck would have it that server went to hell in a bucket.

So then, in January, with the launch of a new server (Wyrmrest Accord), came the following:

Sominus.

Now, Sominus is a very, very obscure reference to what is considered to be one of the worst films ever made. Howard The Duck.

Let me refresh you for those that have seen it:

The Dark Overlords of the Universe came from "a region of demons", known as the Nexus of Sominus.

So...yeah. I think it sounds pretty cool as a name myself though.

Generally I hate any names that have to do with the player's class, spec or role. I also don't like phrase names. It just feels like it takes away from the role playing feel of the game (and I don't even play on an RP server).

But I just *HAD* to reserve the name Deafknight, and make it a bigass thug-looking Draenei. I've only logged into him once, though. It's really just there to make me chuckle a little when I'm on the character selection screen.

Since I can't bring myself to actually play a character with a name like that, I have a Blood Elf DK by the name of Ayrill. I just took the first few letters from my hunter's name and changed the second half of it. It sounds like a name a Belf would have.

My name is Erkel, fear me.

Because nothing strikes more fear into you opponent than an armor plated killing machine advancing towards you, with his britches pulled up to his armpits.
