That screaming horse sound was really cool the first few times but after a while it got so obnoxious that now I find myself muting before mounting up. Is there an add-on or something that will let me change the sound effect?

Errrr... I think you can change things like that by editing the game files. I don't think that's officially legal though.

Aside from that, I don't think you can change it. Perhaps turning down ambience sounds does it?

They don't really care if you change sound files, so long as you aren't doing anything to modify how the game runs in a way that gives you an advantage. It's also not something they can tell that you've done anyway. That being said, I don't know where to find a list of the different files nor how to change them out.

I was thinking the same thing when there was a group of 15+ death knights all mounting at the same time. Guarantee it will get pretty annoying after a while.

They do seem fine with modified sound files, because I've seen a lot of stuff on Curse that swaps sounds for other things. I've been using one for a couple of years that turns the gunshot sound into a silencer-type noise. The 9999th time I heard the guns firing in WoW was quite sufficient for me!

Someone just posted an addon in wow general hat replaces the Stomp stomp stomp of exotic pets, so it's definetly possible.
