Macro for Pounce/Shred?Follow

#1 Nov 13 2008 at 7:21 AM Rating: Decent
It seems that if you take both points in Shredding Attacks and both points in Brutal Impact, that you have time to get in 2 shreds after a pounce, with just a short wait for energy to catch up for the second shred. Anyone have a macro to do this that they don't mind sharing? Or, is this a dumb idea compared to the other talents in those tiers? I'd appreciate both the macro and any thoughts about picking the other talents there instead.

A simple google search for "Pounce shred macro" returned the following as it's first link:

I use
/cast [nostealth] Faerie Fire (Feral)(); [stealth] Pounce()

I think it will work if you replace "Faerie Fire (Feral)()" by "Shred".

This macro will pounce if you're in stealth, and shred if you're not in stealth(once you swap out the FFF). You'll have to hit the button twice.

Another option is to make a cast sequence macro, which is a macro with a sequence of spells/abilities that are used in succession each time the button is pressed. For example, if my cast sequence macro was Pounce>Shred>Mangle, the first time I hit the button will be pounce, the second Shred, and the third Mangle. Hitting it again after that will do pounce again and so on.

There isn't any way to cast both moves in succession with just one button as far as I know. This is due to the GCD. If you had a macro with /cast Pounce and then /cast Shred, the shred would go through instantly, but your GCD from the pounce wouldn't be up yet, so nothing would happen except the pounce.

Cast sequence macros can be dangerous as they get all funky if an action fails. The macro gets stuck. Also you have to include a reset option or the macro will always start where you left off.

I typically only use them for self buffing as druids don't have many x -> y actions we always take.

Conditionals are on the other hand great and I use them often.

I'm assuming you haven't seen it, but there's check out the recent relevant thread in which I espouse the benefits of doing what you want to do with conditionals, because of the problems horsemouth mentions above, and I provide the ones I use. The thread wraps up with the OP, who was trying to castsequence like you're talking about, acknowledging the advantages of the more "conditional" approach.

also, if you chose to follow jeffoncom's advice, make sure to swap mangle with shred in the macro he mentions.
he probly just didn't mean to be exact about it, but you should always first mangle and only then shred (as the mangle effect increases all bleeding damage and shred).

A) Good point, always mangle right after the Pounce.
B) This important introduces the problem and inflexibility of using a castsequence-based macro, imho.
