Mutilate RotationFollow

Amory Link

Here's the question. Right now I am starting with a 5 point SND, followed by alternating 5 point rupture and 5 point eviscerate. Alot of the time I still have 4-6 seconds left on SND when I reach 5 points for eviscerate. Should I just burn eviscerate and count myself lucky my rotation is clean or should I envenom then Shiv and hope I haven't lost SND so I can 1 point eviscerate to refresh the duration? My current gear and spec are in the armory link, and I'm currently using the SND glyph as well. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't waste 5 cp's on SnD to open....maybe 2. You should be able to build/use enough cps to env/evis to refresh a 3pt snd without a problem. I usually open with mutilate, use the cps (2 or 3) on SnD, then mutilate mutilate envenom, rinse, repeat. I eviserate if theres only a few deadly poisons on to keep snd up. I was getting higher dps without rupture (hence no blood spatter in my build) or garrote. This may not be true for others whom have better skills than me, though. My build is in my sig, if you want to look. We have similar gear, although my AP is a lot higher. And it's probably in pvp gear right now, so, meh.

Um.... bosses, trash, 5-toons, or soloing?

The habit of relying on rotations from the old days of "Combat or GTFO" doesn't really apply to current Mutilate raiding. We have priorities, not stagnant rotations.

Generally speaking your priorities are SnD > HfB > Rupture. Evis is weaker than Envenom (yes, even when you have a short DP stack). Your goal is to be sure that SnD and HfB never drop and keeping Rupture up as much as is feasible.

I base my boss fights starting with Garrote (often, not always) and a 3+ point SnD to get that started, and then looking at starting a Rupture uptime cycle depending on how much energy I have and how many Combo Points I've accrued.

Shiv pops up occasionally when I'm pooling energy (generally during an Envenom CB cycle) basically to score a cheap combo point but it should never be used in place of Mutilate or a finisher otherwise. Also note that you should never pool Energy waiting to Rupture.

Mutilate is all about resource management and fast, intelligent decision making. You just can't rely on a steady rotation to get you through the entire fight. It's harder than Combat IMO, and that's what I like about it.

As far as your spec: Consider moving 2 points from Relentless to Opportunity and if you have a Retadin in your raid move the points from Master Poisoner to Turn the Tables (their buff pushes ours off). Also the point in Vigor would probably be better in Ruthlessness. But with all spec questions, consult a good spreadsheet for what is optimal.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Yeah sorry, I should have specified. I meant raid bosses. I don't worry too much about rotations on trash, just keeping snd up. If I could access dkpsystems right now I would post the wws report from last nights a'lar/MH run. So hmm, SND > HfB > Rupture eh? Keeping a 5p rupture ticking at all times, envenoming when the DP is there, eviscerate when it's not, HfB up at all times. I can do that. I only recently started raiding alot so my understanding of raid rogues isn't where it will be later on after hitting 80 and starting the 10/25 mans.

I have found that Envenom will out perform Evis even with only 2 in the DP stack. Evis is useful for trash in my case, but your millage may vary.

This is why i've only broken 2k on a boss fight once....in badge gear.

I have found that if with the T4 two piece set bonus and the glyph of SnD a single point SnD will last long enough to get you to the first envenom. My "rotation" has been along the lines of HfB x 3>Garrote>SnD>energy>mutilate x2>Envenom>HfB>Mutilate>Rupture>HfB and then just bounce back and forth between Envenom and Rupture. Might just be luck of the draw but I seem to be able to keep SnD and HfB up consistently with only a minimal break in rupture.

I will definately look into changing it around so HfB is a top priority as well. When it's stacked 3 times does using it again refresh the timer, or do I reapply all 3 after 30 seconds?

If you have 3 stacked then use it before it runs out it refreshes the timer with all three stacks. If it drops you get to start all over.
