Subect says it all really just wondering if there are any mail boxes in the starting area at all or do we have to wait until we leave before we can get gold and bags over etc etc?

You have a brief moment when you have access to a mail box. As undoubtedly you've heard the DK starting area is phased. Without too much spoilers the starting phases looks like this:

1.) ebon hold
2.) down at the bottom, interacting with a human farm/mine
3.) back to ebon hold
4.) back to farm which is now on fire

During the first time you're in the human area, there is a working mailbox there. If I remember correctly, when the town becomes on fire, the mailbox is destroyed and you are unable to access it. If you do not get your mailbox needs out of the way during the first phase, you will need to go to a major city for access to a mail box, however the flight path from ebon hold does not appear until you complete the whole chain.

My suggestion, and what I personally will be doing, create your DK, then log out. Send money and bags to your DK, log back over and continue with the chain. When the chain is complete, THEN mail your DK glyphs, as ebon hold does not have a lexicon of power, so there's no point in sending glyphs until you're out, or at least are on the way to ORG/SW.

In Beta there wasn't a mailbox in Ebon hold. But, DK's started with 4 12-slot bags. When I was doing the quest line, there was a mailbox inside the town we attacked and destroyed (sorry, I can't remember the name off the top of my head). It worked. Whether it will be the same on release or whether it will be dropped is up to Blizzard.

In Beta, there was actually a quest marker on the mailbox down in that town to draw your attention to it.
You could pick up your cuddly pet penguin (oh Chilly, I will miss you!) while you were there and get an early start on pet collection.

Thats good to know that they start with bags but im guessing there is no real need to send gold and bags over just for the starting area which from my understanding does not take too long to get out of.

But I will do as suggested create my DK then log out and send stuff over getting all excited now cant wait for the endless server crashes and huge lag spikes, ahhh the joys of new expansions.

Not really much to buy in the starting area anyway.
You'll earn decent gold and all blue gear from the quest lines without fealling that you're handicapped or could level faster with better gear.

I ended up with almost 80g in my DK's pockets by the time I left Ebon Hold heading for Stormwind. That's including training everything I could for level 58 and repairing (getting hit by Patchwerk at the wrong time was NOT fun). Other than some food (and you won't need much if you play it right ... or go Blood, but that's the same thing. Smiley: grin), there's not much to purchase.

Those 12 slot bags make a difference.
