Badges of Justice and WOTLKFollow

#1 Nov 11 2008 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
With the expansion fast upon us, I'm wondering what everyone is doing with their badges that they've accumulated. Right now I'm relatively badge-poor (about 35), and am afraid to grind out to 75 only to have the gear I just purchased be replaced with a Northrend blue of some kind. Conversely, I'm hesitant to simply blow them on gems as it feels like a waste. Hence, my dillema. Any advice is appreciated.

(and if it matters, I'm pure PvE and recently joined a motivated raiding guild)

Epic gems are so ridiculously cheap on my server it makes no sense to spend badges on them. My mage just dinged and only has 15 badges, I'm hoping to get him on a Kara run tomorrow so he can buy http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=33588. Sure, they may be replaced by a Northrend blue at 74, but an upgrade is an upgrade, and the 40g I could sell those epic gems for is just as fleeting in a world of 20k flying mounts.

Just get whatever is a decent upgrade for you from the badge vendor, if you get some of the t5-t6 quality ones they should last you until your mid-70s I would venture to guess.

funny, that is my dilemma, since i quit WoW right as our guild got into raids, my equip is ridiculously crapy for pvp none the less, am not focused that much into pvp mind you, but it feels bad when you get taken out in 2 seconds without being able to do anything...

Question is, do you want to make your leveling easier to 74? or do you want to have a "harder" time then everyone else? I wont be wasting money/honor for lvl 70 pvp gear, but i been trying to upgrade my pve gear to get ready for WOTLK...

I really only sweat gear in two situations:

1) End-game. When improving gear is the only way to improve your character and see new content.

2) PvP. I usually try to limit my PvP to when I approach the upper end of a level bracket so I'm not a drag on my team (or until I've got a decent set of epics so I'm not a drag on an arena partner). So come x8, x9, I'll start worrying that I've done the right quests and run the right instances to get good (not the best) gear.

As such, no reason to really stress now.

I am mostly in badge gear myself and i am trying to puch to get more badges. I look at it this way, The better your gear the faster your gonna level. As a mage, the better the gear the more damage you will do , the faster things will drop dead. Even small upgrades are better than none at all.

I got my bracers yesterday and then the exact same ones dropped in ZA (same stats). lol. Oh well, it was an upgrade. Not much more is an upgrade for me, though, at least when considering what needs to be improved asap, so I dunno. I have missed the gems, though. I'll have to see who has them and what they are, and check it out if the servers come back up before bedtime.

I am being nice to the guild JC and shipping him uncut epic gems so he can skill up a few points for free on his JC when he first installs wotlk and trains his jc above 375. The gems are then going to be sent back to my rogue for leveling purposes.

I'll probably buy my alts any items they can afford that are upgrades to their current gear (I've not really looked at the quest rewards for Northrend, but I won't play them for a while so in essence whilst I won't have been using them it will still seem like they've had the items for a while).

Any spare badges will be spent on epic gems which I'll post to my JC to cut (for the skill points) and then probably use on levelling/alt gear.

I don't think I'll bother grinding out more badges though, but I might tag along on alts who could use them if anyone decides to do heroics (most likely for achievements).

I would expect that the OP will be going straight into the new WotLK content so by the time you have any BoJ to spend on something as a significant upgrade, you'll probably be in the 75-80 bracket. This will mean most of the BoJ gear will be obsolete.

I would recommend turning the badges in for Gems as you're going to need these either way. dont turn them in for gems that you intend to sell on the Ah as the prices have hit rock bottom.

No Point in buying gems now really. They cost very cheap since WotLK comes out tonight (CET). I'd buy yourself anything really because they have no use anymore. If you had the badges one month ago, you could've sold them for higher.
