New Prot Leveling Questions...Follow

#1 Nov 11 2008 at 8:17 AM Rating: Decent
So after taking my prot warr out for a spin last night, i've decided, i too will go prot as i level to 80...

now in TBC, i leveled Arms and i looked to get +Str, + Sta, and weapons and trinks that had attributes that i thought will help in my warrior leveling...

now that i'm leveling prot... i'm a bit confused as to how i should be gearing... what attributes will help more...

do i still need to maintain Def
of course, Stam + Str is great... but if i had a choice of neck drops between

Spiked Collar of Servitude

Binds when picked up
Neck
+28 Stamina
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 29 (0.78% @ L77).
Equip: Increases attack power by 52.
Equip: Increases armor penetration rating by 26 (0% @ L77).

vs

Blood-Infused Pendant

Binds when picked up
Neck
+24 Strength
+51 Stamina
Equip: Increases defense rating by 26 (6.55 @ L77).
Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 10 (0.32% @ L77).

what would/should i shoot for?

Personally, i'd go with the Blood-Infused Pendant, but it is tough to say without seeing the rest of your gear setup. They changed the STR:SBV ratio to 2:1, which means Strength is much more useful to warriors now (not to mention the ATK power bonuses for abilities like Shockwave, etc..). The tiny bit of dodge on that neck piece will help keep a chain of revenges coming, which is one of your main sources of damage.

Again, this is just my opinion, and it is tough to determine if it would be best in all cases considering I can't see the rest of your gear.

ha ha ha... heya Meatballsub...
we're neighbors...

my main is Bigape in Silvermoon US

sadly, my armory shows me mounted and with my 2hander gear...

basically, my prot gear is ZA chest and boots, S2 Shoulders, and the rest is kara gear... got 2 blues tho...

but regardless of what i have, i was just wondering what attributes i need to keep in mind as i lvl...

Strength and SBV would be number one. I'd keep my defense skill up as well. Nothing like being uncritable. Dodge and parry are always good but not in lue of Str and SBV. SB rating is very good as it doens't take much to get a full % out of it. Think atm its somewhere around 10 rating per percent block chance.

Most definitelly 2 choise if your Prot.

Its a matter of view angle...

Blood-Infused Pendant

Neck
+48 attack power

Equip: Increases your SBV by 12

The 1st one is definitelly for arms/fury spec as Critical strike rating and AP is of Major importance.
Tanks get major crits with shields-critical block talent and Incite talent. You dont need Crit rating items as they come to replace major tank needs. Once y make the choise and get the wrong item from a quest giver , then y cant trade it back...choose wiselly.. tank items dont just drop from trees... y cant just PvP for 2-3 days and get tank gear ...tank gear comes only from spesific quests and Hard instances (of course from 70-->80) untill we all get to 80 and get 'Emblem of valor' (from 80 heroics???) == badge of justice type

The question really comes down to whether you want to use the item for soloing, or if it's intended to be used for your tanking set in groups. If you're going for your soloing/leveling set, then pick the first one. But if you're talking about tanking instances, then the second is definitely what you should take.

well, my thinking is to go all prot and tank...
i want to level prot, get used to the abilities, and brush up on my skills...

this with added damage we do in Prot is a huge bonus...

and as geo said, tanking items selected wisely while leveling, espeically in the latter stages, can give you a head start into lvl 80 instances and raids...

at least that's what i'm hoping.
