Currently using a mace. Just wanna know if using an axe is better. I see there damage is almost the same. I'm not using 2h's. Just board and mace. :D Thanks to all those who reply.
Your weapon skill will affect it. But those can and should be leveled up anyways.
Besides that the only thing that make axe better is if you're an orc. They have an axe specialization racial that adds 5 expertise with axes.
If you're an orc I'd take axes when you can, I still would take a mace if it's a good upgrade. Otherwise it doesn't matter.

well im assuming that you must be elemental or resto if your using a shield too.
It will be difficult for you to find +spl power axes. In fact ive never actually seen one.

Yes, this does bring up a good question.
To the OP, when asking a question like this, you should factor in other variables to complete your question, like level, spec, and race.
I can't really give a straight answer without knowing these things.
Like it was said, if you're using a shield, then it doesn't matter what kind of weapon you use. If you're going enhancement, you'll want to consider ditching that shield for dual wielding slow weapons when you get into the 40+ levels. If you're an Orc, and also going enhancement, then Axe would be best to make use of their racial.
If you're not enhancement at all, use whatever tickles your pickle. :P
