Stealth Tank!?! Follow

Omg now I know why lower level instances are so crappy. Crappy group leaders that don't know there own class. Ok this just happened tonight. I was invited for a SFK run. I was like sure. Nothing for a rogue there except maybe a ring and a new cloak(Fenris's Hide) which I currently have. So I go along. One thing I noticed....<.< No tank. No paladin, no druid and no warrior. I asked "So who's tanking"....they said "You are". I started cracking up laughing. I about fell outta my chair.

He said sure rogues can tank. Any class can tank. I replied you mean any class as apposed to say a priest. He said no priests can tank as well in lower level instances. Ok I am still learning here but I have never heard of a priest tanking...Have any of you. I asked how am I supposed to tank. He said stealth...sap the elite...kill the guards around it then kill him. All I heard was "Don't worry..we'll keep you healed". We'll means 2 healers right. lol there was one priest. That was it. One priest 2hunters and myself. >.> I said how are you going to heal me. He said hold on let me find my mend heal spell. I was like wth. <.>?

So it started and in a flash I dropped lol. Why I went along. I'll never know. I thought I'd share that experience with all of you. This hunter claims he has 4 70's......sure and i've got 2 80's rofl! Anything like that happen to any of you? Makes me wonder how old he was. 12 or 72 o.o.

i have seen rogues tank lower level stuff. they arent as good obviously due to lack of threat modifiers and AoE threat, hell shammies do a much better job than they do.

I've never done it, but rogues can be tanks.

I have seen (as in I've been in the actual raid) rogues tank Gruul and Magtheridon. But it takes a very particular spec and set of gear to pull it off. Unless the rogue vastly out-levels an instance you shouldn't be thinking about putting them out front.

The guy was probably drunk. But at least you got a story out of it. Cheers!

As a general rule: that guy was retarded. You should never expect the rogue to tank. Not even in SFK. SFK's actually a pretty hard instance for its level.

With two hunters there, you should have had the pets tanking.

Well, yeah, rogues can "tank". Once every 2 or 3 minutes, depending on your spec. I've actually once tanked Vann 'till he downed with evasion. But no, you don't want a primary rogue tank in an instance.

As a sidenote, he did have a small point; specially at the lower levels, pretty much any class can do some tanking. Heck, I've "tanked" Uldaman on my mage simply by creative use of snares. You do need a decent group for this though, if your avarage PUG guy tells you "lol u tank" you'll want to /leave party asap.

I've tanked some parts of instances. Some of Old Hillsbrad.

Even Last night a pally healer and myself were standing in Heroic Steam Vaults waiting for the rest of the group, so we jumped up and I sapped the one elite and we dropped the first one. (dismantle FTW!) Got the second one down to 3000 health but when they invited a new group member it kicked me off the pallys healbot for some reason and I lost my heals.

I've tanked friends lower level characters through instances, even did Mara as lvl 55 I think. It's great fun to see peoples reactions when a rogue steps up and says they're tanking.

It does happen as well. I've lost the url but do a search on youtube for rogue tanking and watch the rogue tank Mother Shiraz and Illidian.

Reading this I feel very lucky to have tanked what I have.

I've tanked all the quest elites/bosses in SMV and Netherstorm at least once (even though anyone can do it with a good enough healer) as well as Fel reaver out in Hellfire. I've also picked up some raid bosses with evasion to finish the fight. I've picked up Gruul, Voidreaver, Tidewalker, and Leotheras (but Leo killed me and it turned out to be a 1% wipe, not bad for our first night on the fight though, hehe.)

I know that one of the rogues on my server had a set put together and was required to tank Mother Shahraz in BT by his guild.

Once you get the gear and a competent healer, rogues can actually tank. I've tanked every bc instance, heroic mode and normal, with my shammy friend healing, with virtually no problems. I've also tanked several of the bosses in kara, plus gruul, mag, morogrim and supremus from 60ish%. I honestly don't recommend doing this though lol, however... it is fun and it's a good way to make all your guildys make you their hero =D

Just make sure your either wearing a nice avoidance set or a lot of t6 drops first =P (and the kara trink)

Well....you learn something new everyday. Problem is lol I don't want to tank as a rogue even if I could. If I wanted to tank I'd have leveled a war. Just pure curiousity what would you have to gear towards to be able to tank. I had never heard of a rogue tanking until I read all the posts.

Its really cool to hear that though. Now I know rogues can do anything..besides heal. Thanks for the replies guys and info on what you've tanked.

The set I've been building up has alot of +agi and +stam. Anything with avoidance on it is good.

Not really making the set for anything other than I get bored easily when we're not raiding and I can only take so many BG's before I go nuts. Besides it's fun to run over to Nagrand and solo the elites or help out the lower level guys looking to group for the kills.

Something like this for spec

I don't know for sure though, especially with the changes to the tree's but it would be fun to try. Haven't tried since the patch, limited play time lately, but that may work decently.

We can do anything we have bandages. :)
