First off, someone was shouting for a pug BT, so I /tell them. He asked my spec, stats, and DPS. When I told him my DPS, I didnt hear back from him anymore. lol. My DPS by my observation has been 900~ish. So I figured he must be looking for the 2k dps I always hear about.
My gear isn't great, but it isnt total crap either. I'm wearing the 4 piece scourge set, Kara drop helm, kara gun, pvp boots, cloak of craft, necklace of the deep, felsteel bracers (my next upgrade). Every piece of gear has top enchants, glyphs, and/or medium gems. I'm 51/10 BM spec with cat. Un-buffed I'm at about 1620 AP, 24% crit.

In the Kara, ZA, and dungeons I have run so far with guild and pugs, I am usually top 2 in total damage and DPS. I usually run about 800-900 DPS when instance is over, but peak around 1100 when we are getting alot of group pulls where I can Volley. If I'm trapping on pulls my DPS drops big time.
I am curious where people are getting their DPS numbers from. I have Recount addon and use it 24/7 (resetting for each instance of course). Now granted... I have not ran with anyone in full T5 or T6, but I have yet to see anyone hitting over 1200 dps at any given time. Does T5/T6 really double your DPS over kara/ZA/MgT type gear? When someone states their DPS are they stretching the truth a bit? Are they using a different addon that reads bigger numbers than Recount?

short answer: Yes. The gear makes a big difference. You'd also see much higher DPS with the right spec. 51/10 is a really poor build for raiding at 70.
In BT, I do use Recount. if I'm pulling anything less than 2,000 DPS on a boss (with the exception of Supremus because of the run phase), I feel like I'm having a bad night. That's not to say that all hunters who go into BT should/can pull that much, but you should at lease be pulling 1500 DPS if you want to pull your weight.
BT got nerfed, but you should at least still be in full epics before you set foot in there, especially if you're being pugged. The only time I ever see any raid leaders bring in anyone with blues is if it's a guild farm run, and someone brings in their Alt.
To give you an extra idea of how much a difference the gear makes: my first time in Kara, I was pulling about 600 DPS merged with my pet. I ran Kara today for sh*ts and giggles (I don't even need the badges), and my PET was pulling 700 DPS on bossfights alone. In full 25-man raids, it's not uncommon for my cat to pull 1k DPS.
EDIT: Omg. Do you realize that for 3 talent points, you could increase your AP by 260? No offense, but your build is worse than I assumed when I saw 51/10. Take a look at my armory. Some hunters push points back and forth between Longevity and Cobra strikes, but that's basically a level 70 raid build.

I pulled about 1.2k on Black Morass bosses tonight with a cleaner 51/10/0 spec (hate it, wanted to poke around with exotics a bit). My Marks DPS is closer to 1.5k. Probably higher in 10s or 25s because of more buffs (didn't have Sunder or lust tonight, for example).

Hmmm. Lots of things wrong here tbh. Your spec...is bad, with a cat you looking for a 50/11/0 or a 49/12/0. Your losing a ton of DPS not being hit capped, I would really look into getting some kara pugs or something to gain some epics/t4 for some hit gems/hit rating. (I probably just wait till the expansion at this point though.) I would want 142 hit rating before I stepped foot into ZA. In mostly pvp/kara epics being hit capped with food I stepped into ZA doing maybe 1100 dps on bosses before the new talents and stuff so honestly I was much weaker back then. In full epics from kara/ZA/badges I pull a minimum of 1800 dps on BT bosses or I sucked terribly.

All that said, wait a week for the expansion get to 80 then worry about it then, if your dead set on increasing your effectiveness now then follow the above advice.

I had gear to hit the 142 hit cap before, but most items I had were like Stam and hit, so I been storing them in bank and wearing agi items only.
I changed spec closer to the new norm for BM, and got AP to 1656 with no buffs. 1857 with aspect of hawk. My Hit is now at 142. After changing gear around and changing spec, the only thing I seemed to lose was Crit. crit was 24.20% now its at 21.33%
I think if I put acouple +20 agi enchants on my daggers it will help up my crit a little. I was using Terokk's Quill with a +35 agi enchat for 89 agi total. Now I will try using Claw of the Netherwing Flight and Bombardier's Blade for the +hit on them. With +20 agi enchants on them it should put my agi at 69 agi. Plus the extra agi should up my AP also.
So i think i'm gonna try to get 2x 20agi enchants and up the AP on my bracers to hit 1900AP before Kara tonight. We'll see how good of an improvement there is with the respec and increased hit and AP.
