#1 Nov 05 2008 at 11:57 AM Rating: Default
As the title stats.... save em all... I just looked up some of the new gear that comes available in the xpac... the greens for lvl 72 are ALL better than T5 epic lvl gear and weapons.... its mind boggling.. and here I was farming up honor and arena points to get gear to lvl faster... wow... you don`t need it... the gear at least, if you have it then yes it will be easier... but don`t go all out to get gear. At least through honor or arena points... save them all. Trust me... I`m stnned looking at all these greens..... go to wow head and see for yourself.

I haven't seen this at all (at least for Holy). I looked on wowhead, and don't see anything replacing T4 until your mid-late 70s. T5 - very late 70s. T6....Naxx?

The problem I found with most of the gear is that it's not very well balanced. It's usually missing a stat here or there. Like a good amount of +Spell Power, but no +Crit or +MP5. I think I just got spoiled :)

I know there is gonna be alot more gear that will be available than you can see, but whats there gives a good idea of whats coming, regardless, you all should be saving your honor points, and arena points... I just hope they don`t reset them back to zero, like last expac release.

I really hope so. I wasn't impressed with the quest gear currently listed in wowhead.

Also, I believe they already announced that you will be able to keep all your honor points. However, I'm not sure about Arena. I thought that resetted each season anyway.

Your arena points never got reset, just the team rating got reset back to 1500 at the start of every season.
I sure hope honor doesn`t get reset, I have spent to much time farming it on my warrior.

Blizzard has already officially stated:

Honor will not reset.
Arena points WILL reset the moment you ding 71.

Beg to differ, level 78 blues are approximately on par with Sunwell gear.

Example: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=41355 vs. http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=34431
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=44053 vs. http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=34247

and whatnot (granted, sockets are underbudgeted so the SWP pieces win out, but the point is that most things T6/6.5 will be replaced before Naxx, and lower-tiered stuff substantially earlier). Tanks will have to drop their pieces with fancy stuff like dodge/parry/hit/expertise for straight +str/stam/def gear to get uncrittable, as the def rating requirement more than doubles (I can get over 550 def on live socketed and chanted for stam, but I figured that even with resocketing and chanting everything for straight +def, I'd still be crittable at 80 in current gear).

I'm not sure how you justify ignoring gems. Some gemmed T6/6.5 gear is superior to some blues. So why would you replace it?

Also, I know that some T6/6.5 will be replaced prior to Naxx. But I don't think that people will only be running Naxx is 100% blues. I bet you will find people in there with some T6/6.5 gear still. Maybe not 100% T6/6.5 gear, but probably still some pieces.

The point is that a lot of tier gear will last you a long time. Even T4. For example, I couldn't find a replacement for a T4 chest (Holy) before lvl 78. There are some roughly equivalent chestpieces, but nothing that stands out as being actually superior.

The itemization is just bad on the items. Yeah, it may have more spell power, but it has no Stamina. Or no Int. Or no crit. Or no MP5. etc... That is where I think the previous tier items really win out. They are much better balanced.

I think DPS gear will get replaced earlier since it appears that Blizzard itemized most quest rewards around DPS specs. I assume they figure most people will spec DPS for leveling.

For Pally Tanks, it does look like even Kara/T4/Badge gear may well last until at least level 78 and in some cases into 80. I plan on staying prot and tanking my way to 80, so it looks like for most of my pieces I will get nothing worthwhile as replacements for quite some time.

I may even have my guild run some of the 25-man TBC raids while levelling just to get some T6-6.5 stuff to help get us to 80. (Plus we haven't raided anything past ZA yet as a guild, so it would be fun for those of us who haven't seen the 25-man TBC content yet!)

People who already have T6-6.5 should be set for a while I imagine.

Did you miss the line where I said

or read it and ignore it? I was just showing the lowest-level pieces I could find whose item budgets were on par with Sunwell gear. I'm sure people will carry some 70 epics into Naxx like how some people wore 60 epics into Kara, but my money is on everything in BC having a replacement before Naxx (whether or not you get the drop you need or grind the rep or whatever for that replacement is another thing).

You could be right about healing stuff, not my thing so I didn't look into it, but I expect that leveling gear in Wrath will be like 1-59 or 61-69 gear was, mostly heavy on the basic stats (you didn't see much hit/crit/MP5 until 60, for example, or any ArP/expertise/haste until BT and later ZA/badge). I also suspect that we will have to load up on the basic stats (enough defense to be uncrittable, enough spellpower to to be able to put out enough HPS, etc.) before going back to the fancily itemized stuff we became used to.

Every piece of T4 and most badge gear can (and should) be replaced by Tempered Saronite stuff (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?search=tempered+saronite) as soon as you know a BS that can craft it. You WILL need the defense rating to get uncrittable (689 def rating to be uncrittable at 80, you won't be able to comfortably look at stats like dodge and block rating until you're raiding T7/8. Uncrittable is like uncrushable was in BC).

Theo - I did read your full post. Sorry if my post didn't quite indicate that. What I was trying to say is that I didn't understand how you would state that T6/6.5 would be replaced, and then go to state that T6/6.5 were superior to your examples. I think I was being too picky though. Sorry about that.

I do think we are both making the same point. Most people who are T6/6.5 geared will probably be hitting Naxx with some of their TBC gear. Probably not all of it, but probably some of it.

This is true, and what I find a bummer. I like my fancily itemized gear :( It's going to be a balancing act again. Do I keep the extra crit, or go for more raw spell power? Things like that. Another reason why I think the TBC tier gear will go a long way. Of course, as a healer, I see gear with MP5 becoming less useful for leveling. It really only goes a long way during long fights. I don't expect too many long fights while leveling - even in instances.

I disagree with the OP. From what I've seen, level 70 kara+ epics should last until 75-77.

I was looking at the weapons mostly on wowhead.. for my warrior and ret pally, the gear itself, does seem like it will take a little bit longer to replace, but regardless, I think it will probably get replaced well before 80, at least half my gear, but I do plan on saving up about 30,000 honor on at least one of my toons so I can buy a weapon almost right away.

The reason I made this post is not to make everyone horde there honor or arena points, but to warn anyone that may be close to buying something to reconsider or at least wait and see what comes available. I for sure will be, I did have it planned out to get some merc gear for my warrior, but that seems more like a waste now, however, I didn`t tell anyone to not get PvE gear, just to hold off on the PvP gear, since the PvE gear is easier to get ahold of.

Oh of course there isn`t alot on any site to look at yet, but wait till you can start doing some quests, just like when the TBC came live, choices were a little hard. To keep or change. I however hope the gear doesn`t look like crap again. Going from a shiny, awesome looking sword to a wooden stick that somehow hits harder, I hope its not that bad.

In retrospect, what I was really looking at was Wrath blues with the same item budgets as SWP epics. Whether or not they're actually better/replace the BC epics obviously depends on how those item points are distributed. So I'm seeing the possibility of some well-budgeted BC epics (especially ones with sockets, sockets are underbudgeted especially on small-budget pieces like bracers) lasting. My line of thinking of higher item budget = better item was flawed.

Doesn't matter, we vigorously moved this thread offtopic and there's no going back :)

The tempered saronite stuff is going to be great for defense rating, and that is about it. Even though crushes are supposedly off the table (unless they introduce some level 84 raid bosses) this means Prot Pallies are going to be missed quite often, but our ability to dodge, parry, and block will be terrible in this particular set since all it has is defense rating. Not sure if I like that... it may gimp our mana regeneration.

I know the whole prot topic is OT since this started out as being about honor/arena points, but it kinda got mixed in here.

You can't do anything about gimped avoidance at fresh 80 if you want to be uncrittable, though. 689 defense rating required at 80. That's a hell of a lot. Being uncrittable is by far the most important thing; according to what I've read from beta, even in leveling instances eating 2 crits in a row will be fatal.

It won't really hurt mana regen though, because Spiritual Attunement will be working harder. Nice synergy - BoSanct does more with high avoidance, SA with low avoidance.

Thats true... oh well.. a good disscussion over anything always grows into other related topics.. I see it all the time.

I think I need to spend some more time staring at the gear available in WOLTK to far. I keep having nightmares during the night. I want to see more, but I want pics... picture your epic`d out pally all shiny and glowing and sparkly, holding an amazingly dull sword, that so plain you want to hide it.... thats what my nightmare are all about........... thank god (blizz) for beast slaying.
