Protadins/ Panks/ TankadinsFollow

I recently lvl'd my paladin to 70 doing retribution, at which point I switched to prot.

Instantly I got invited to a crap load of instances/groups. Two of which were a main tank for a kara group (which i decided not to do at the last minute), and main tank for normal UB.

Before tanking for a paladin was one touch idiot button and was fairly easy. Now it's 3 touch and very easy. I took on pulls of like 6-8 mobs (we had no cc) the healer kept me well above 3/4s hp and thus spiritual attunement kept my mana up I never lost aggro and produce a mega amount of threat while doing good DPS.

I love the changes to prot pallies. I used to be prot pre lvl 60. I look forward to tanking kara at least once before wotlk.

why did I post this you ask? Idk, maybe take a look at my gear (Diestructo on shu'halo) give me some suggestions, or talk about tankadin or tanking experiences or whatever.

If you ever use the term "Pank" in a post again, there's a good chance some hardworking representatives of the Paladin Union are going to saran-wrap you to a tree in Terrokar and you won't see Northrend til spring.... :-)

As for the rest of your post, I don't know what other classes you've been playing, but the game isn't meant to be hard. Karazhan in particular is incredibly easy for just about everyone right now so I wouldn't draw too many in-depth conclusions about Prot Pallies from it.

Just kick back and enjoy the ride. The next 10 days are all about ******** around and having fun.

Pank. Does that make me a Pealer?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Your gear is all ret. I'm not sure how the new patch "fix" (using that term loosely) is going to effect you, but pre 3.0 you would have had a good healer. Post, well... I don't think a Ret pally should be able to tank, though I ran Ramps solo on the PTR with a Ret Pally.

IMO:
Your gear is all ret. I would suggest (in the footsteps of many others) that you read the FAQ, the Def/Mig and for easy referance check out the gear list in Losie's Sticky. The gear list is in the Def/Mig sticky too, but Losie set it up for easy ref I think.
Again IMO, and this is probally the easy way to look at it.
Keep Adamantine Figurine and put the rest in the bank incase you decide to respec for whatever reason. Eh, and your shield is ok, for the time being. Hit up the AH for some quick greens. The main stat your looking for is Stam. You need to build a your def up to 490 so Def is your next stat. You should start doing dailys and instance for Shattered Sun and get exaulted with them and Keepers of Time (where you will also find a few of the drops on the list). As said in the Def/Mig sticky, your avoidance goal is 102.4%. Though they moved Crushing Blows from +3 to +4 bosses, I'm guessing that WotLK will have our wonderful +4 bosses (bringing back Crushing Blows) and it would be good to get a jump on your avoidance.

Most of the info you're going to read is still good. The tid-bit about spell damage is null. Get your stam up and you'll get your spell damage up because of Touched By The Light.

Your talent tree...mmm. Check my Armory link in my Sig. I could go on about how you need your 3rd pt in TbtL, but my gf is hounding me about being on here to long, so I'll let my other fellow pallys pick on that. TATA, and Good Luck.

I'd actually suggest not doing any of that just because WotLK is coming out in like 10 days. Keep getting Ret gear and when the expansion comes just start leveling. Don't waste your time and effort getting blues from instances that you will be able to replace in a couple of weeks.

Bang on the money. With a WEEK to go before we all start leveling again, and our gear starts to get replaced, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to work on a prot set.

Level something else, farm gold, do some instances, kara ... whatever. My advice is to do it for fun (as it ALWAYS should be) and not at all for gear you are not going to have for much longer.

When you get to 78 you can go prot and start tanking if you like. As a tank, I doubt you'll ever be short of invites if you do a good job anyhow. Maybe in 6 months when everyone and his dog has a frost specced DK this might change, but for the time being you know you are always going to see "LFG last spot XXXX. Need tank".

I agree with this for the most part, but if you have your heart set on being a tank and tanking even the starter instances in WOTLK (and if you don't have much better to do for the next week) getting SOME tanking pieces isn't going to hurt you. It is VERY true that they won't last you too long though, so putting forth a ton of effort at this point probably isn't useful.

I WOULD get exalted with SSO for several reasons though, the necklace and shield would last you for a decent number of levels, and all the money you would get from dailies wouldn't hurt you.

I leveled from 10 to 70 as prot, but yesterday I finally got both my holy and ret sets to 100% epic, and went to check on my tank stuff. Four blues.

This saddens me.

And I am going to be so annoyed to have part epic plus part green.

The biggest disappointment to questing in Lich King is that anyone geared out in even decent gear (I am in the top honor gear) will find there are very few rewards worth getting until you are almost level 80.

So... unless you of course want to run as Ret up to 80, my orginal answer still stands. Also, it would be good to learn the trade. Tanking is a skill, and unless you've had a tank you may want to blow the next 9 days learning in what I call a much easier enviroment (compared to pre 3.0).

Good luck in whatever you choose.
