The last thing i want to do here is come on and rip the BM spec cause it helped me level from 48-70 in no time and i love it. But when i started playing with the knew builds after the patch i started thinking that it was time to try something else. i hope i can still make this a productive post cause im still a noob and dont know how to make armory post of my chararcters. i switched from a 51/10/0 to a 7/52/2 MM build and i like it much better but i haven't heard of many others that are using it. It's strictly a pve build but if i take the 2 points out of the tracking thing in survival and add aimed shot and silence shot then its easily converted to some what of a pvp build. i was just wondering if the dmg seems like it would hold up with the build with that build, or if there are many others using a similar build. again im sorry that i suck at posting with stickies or what ever but if it helps my hunters name is ucanthyde on the gorggonash server.

thanks!

I know they made up punctuation and paragraphs for a reason.

MM is a good tree. However max dps is currently BM/MM. Since you know of these forums I will assume you have read a little here. Do us all a favor and read some more. There are more posts than I can count about spec choices. So stop being a lazy *** and do some &*^$# research!

Also, if you want a more in depth approach to hunter theorycraft, check out elitist jerks forums. Read there and you will learn volumns.

nah, max dps at the moment seems to be 0/54/7. However that's at least partially due to JOW being broken. So we'll have to wait and see.

I decided to finally make the plunge and try out 7/51/3 today. I haven't been able to raid with it yet, since I specc'ed into it after my raid tonight. But on the testing dummies, I'm doing more DPS than I did as BM. I'm not completely sold on the playstyle yet, but I guess it might grow on me.

Maybe I'm just bitter that my T5 shoulders are better for MM than my Beast-tamers shoulders. I want eyeballs on my shoulders. *shrug* My guild has been getting a ton of drops on hunter/warrior/shaman T6 shoulders, so hopefully I'll get them next week. I kept passing on them until now.

*shrug* after looking at them for a few months, they started to grow on me. I think it might also be that T5 shoulders are usually associated with one of the easiest bosses in the TBC.

I decided to give MM a try as well. Smashing the old SS/Auto macro had really taken the joy out of my hunter a couple months back. It was fun seeing my name at the top of the DPS meter but man I hated that macro.

Now that it's no longer really nessesary I might give BM another shot later but so far MM seems pretty fun.

Chimera shot has some nice utility and seems to hit pretty hard after a sting. I'm getting 3K+ on the crits. My AP and crit are both just nuts with AoH and TS aura up. I really have alot of shots to unload in a short time so the burst is also pretty dang good.

Looking at recount I am not sure I am sold on Wild Quiver yet but it kind of reminds me of a rogue sword spec. Definitly nice when it procs but damage boost seems a tad low on it according to recount.

My old problem with MM before 3.0 was of course mana. And it still seems really easy to blow out all my mana solo. The new AoV brings you back up pretty fast however.

I'm doing a 7/54/0 ish build right now I might have to try 0/54/7 that looks pretty hot.

Now if I could only decide on a pet I like.......

So for my experience with Marksman during a raid. I'm not sold on it. Then again, I had issues.

On Brutallus, It was my job to MD pull, and it bugged my pet. I didn't notice that it wasn't attacking for a good 2 minutes.
After Brutallus, my guild went to take down Archimonde. I was #1 on the damage charts, but it's just not a very good way to judge DPS because that's a survival fight, rather than a DPS race. Hunters also can't really use pets.

I just wasn't having as much fun with it as I do with BM, though, and that was the real problem.

Yeah, I posted a thread about a week ago about this issue. If you put your pet on Defensive and order it to stay, then order it to follow, there's a good chance it will unbug. (If it doesn't work, keep ordering it to stay then follow).

I know about the bug, but I was on the western side of the map, so I thought that I wouldn't have a problem. My pet wasn't next to me, so I assumed that it was attacking.

It was really my fault for setting Scrolling combat Text to only show hits bigger than 500 damage. If I had kept it lower, I would have noticed my pet not attacking much sooner.

As soon as I called it back to me, and sent it in again, it was attacking fine.

I definitely decided I like BM better. I got a few honor points to knock out before the XP pack so I am going to stay marks until I finish that however. I can't imagine BM in BG's right now. At least with marks I can fire off about 5 shots as fast as the GCD will allow before I am dead in 2-3 seconds. Smiley: lol

I've been MM (7/51/3) since the patch on my hunter alt and doing what I consider pretty solid DPS for my gear (about 1200 on bosses in mostly blues/UD slaying set/ZA gun). I decided to level a worm pet for WotLK leveling (holds super single-target threat by the way, and the Acid Spit armor reduction makes a noticeable difference in personal DPS) and went 51/10/0 last night. Some guildies were running heroics, so I hopped in, and found that my DPS absolutely tanked (down to around 800 DPS). Yeah, part of that was not having GftT, part was not using a ferocity pet, and part was that I'm loaded with haste (>10% from gear) and haste is a lot better for Marks than BM, but I'm not sure that adds up to a 33% dps loss.

Our guild hunters are mostly Marks now (except one crazy ******* that just loves Surv) and generally doing top DPS on Brutallus.

I also think BM is boring, at least with Marks you have Serpent Sting to watch and Chim Shot to hit every CD intead of just Steady spamming, but there's no accounting for taste.

Maybe the difference is solo for me. I have been using ferocity pets and I pull agro off them too easy as MM. I should try a real tank pet when I am solo some time. I can't get into the worm but I do have a 65 piggy from RFC I could pull out. Although I think a bear might be cooler with the swipe.

It's on my list of things to do but I have way to many alts. ;)

Scorpid might make a good non-exotic (non-gorilla) tenacity pet; not sure how bad their Scorpid Poison was nerfed in the patch, but they were doing quite well on DPS despite being tenacity. I love the black and red skin (like Sarkoth), and you can tame one with that skin at 69 in SMV. A very simple macro I found useful for soloing as Marks is

/cast [target=pet] Misdirection

Yeah I do that and I FD but MD is not always up if you are just blowing up mobs in dailies. Having a super BM pet is just kinda good for lazy stuff solo or for taking down tougher elites.

Try this one, it has a lot more utility:

#showtooltip Misdirection
/cast [target=focus,help][help][target=pet,exists,nodead] Misdirection

What it will do is cast Misdirection on your focus target if it is friendly. If you don't have a friendly focus, it'll cast on your target if friendly. If you don't have either, it will cast onto your pet. With this macro, you don't have to change it out if you decide to do an instance or raid. You just set your focus to your tank, and forget about it. You'll never accidentally MD the healer... Although, you will occassionally MD your pet if the focus disappears. It does that to me occasionally, and I can't figure out why.

That macro works really well with this one for instances:

/focus [modifier:shift] target
/target [no modifier:shift] focus
/target [no modifier:shift, no modifier:alt] targettarget

That one will focus your target with the "shift" modifier. Target your focus' target with no modifier, or target your focus if he doesn't have a target. Really handy for raids with multi-mob pulls.
